Got a cool note tonight from the guy who wrote the book "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer". It's a book about why people care so much about sports...college football in particular.
My dad read and loved the book. Dad says it sits high atop his mountain of prestigious literary works. (aka the back of the toilet).
Anyway the writer stumbled into my blog and sent me a link to a funny article on the UGA Women's Football 101 Clinic for Girls.
Which reminds me...I haven't said anything about the Football 101 clinic. No...I didn't sneak in this year. Although, it was considered. We sent my mom for the third year in a row and she LOVES it. If you're looking for a good Bulldawg Mother's Day gift next year, I highly recommend a ticket to this clinic. It's $100-150 for the day and worth every penny. Although, you have to book it MONTHS before Mother's Day.
Anyway, here's a link to Warren St. John's Blog. Good times.

Chan Gailey Named Best (I mean Worst) Coach in America

SI.com Names Chan Gailey Best Coach in America
ATLANTA -- There was considerable celebrating on The Flats today as Georgia Tech's Head Coach Chan Gailey was named Best Coach in America by SportsIllustrated.com. The award recognized Gailey as the Best Coach in America...at being the Worst Coach in America.
The SI.com article compared Gailey to ultra successful coach Pete Carroll of the Southern Cal Trojans. The article also highlighted Gailey's ability to command respect from his players and demonstrate discipline both on the field and off.
"Sure, the comparisons to Carroll weren't favorable, the comments about our off field problems were all negative and being named Worst Coach in America would be frowned on by many Athletic Directors, but I see it as a badge of honor for our program," said Dave Braine, athletic director for Georgia Tech. "Finally, we're the best at something. Yes, we're the best at being the worst. But it's something."
Legendary Dallas Cowboy and NFL Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman was contacted for comment on the award. "It's about time that Gailey was honored for his relentless pursuit of mediocrity. I'm only shocked that this type of recognition came so late in his career," said Aikman.
Sources close to SI.com said there was a "moment of clarity" when the choice to name Gailey as the Best Coach in America...at being Worst...was made. Factors such as the 2003 blowout loss at Duke, the blowout loss to UNC in 2004 and the 51-7 spanking at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs were certainly factors in his favor. But the decision to have star[sic] quarterback Reggie Ball spike the ball against UGA on 3rd down in 2004 with time running out was the moment "where the stars aligned."
Coach Gailey is part of a long line of distinguished Georgia Tech coaches who have won the award. Former Coach Bill Lewis won the award 3 consecutive years in the early 1990s and Pepper Rodgers had a near mortal lock on the award before that.
There has been no word from Georgia Tech on when the official trophy presentation will be scheduled.
Worst Coach
#1 Chan Gailey, Georgia Tech: What's the difference between failed NFL coach Carroll and failed NFL coach Gailey? An ability to command respect from his players. For three years, the Jackets have demonstrated a lack of discipline both on the field (where they continually lay eggs just before or after flashing potential brilliance) and off it (numerous academic and legal casualties).

What 100 lbs of Weed Might Look like: Georgia Tech
A friend of mine who owns horses sent me this tidbit on Reuben Houston's "alledged" attempt to acquire 100 lbs of Weed.
"A square bail of hay, tightly packed, weighs about 35-40 pounds. A square bail is about 48 inches long, 24 inches high and 24 inches wide. So, basically, that kid had 2 1/2 bails of weed."
So stacked on top of each other...that's roughly 6 feet tall, 4 feet long and 2 feet wide of drugs. The pic below is an attempt to show what Reuben's payload might have looked like.
It isn't exactly to scale but the part in white will give you an idea of how much weed that Reuben alledgely attempted to obtain for $60,000. I put Reuben in the pic to give some semblance of scale to the pic.

UGA vs. Boise State - Most Absurd Football Prediction Yet
Wow. This prediction on the UGA vs. Boise state game is about as nutty as I've seen. Here are my favorite parts:
In this game, Boise State is more or less going to work Georgia at times, flustering their defense and making them look stupid at times.
Georgia is a fairly low-tech outfit
If Boise truly believes it's the better team here, this game will be an annihilation in their favor.
Georgia under coach Mark Richt has never really been exposed to the kind of offense Boise State plays. Nobody in the SEC plays that kind of ball, not even close.
Wow. Will someone with a UGA coach's email address handy please send the above link along. Talk about nutty.

UGA vs. Georgia Tech Tickets (3 game mini-pack info)
The time is now Dawg Fans! Fill Mark Richt Stadium at Historic Grant Field with Red for 2005. UGA vs. GT 3 game minipacks are now on sale to people who've done prior business with GT.
If you have ever ordered a 3 game minipack in the past OR
If you have ever ordered a full season tix package from GT
Then you can go ahead and call GT's Ticket Office and order the 3 game pack for this year. The phone number is 888-TECH-TIX.
Price is $106 per 3 game pack. The pack includes the UGA game, NC State (Thursday Night ESPN) and Wake Forest. It was extremely considerate of Dave Braine, athletic director at GT, to include the Wake Forest game given that it's UGA's off week.
They won't let you select exactly what section you're going to sit in. HOWEVER, you can request general areas. The UGA band will be sitting near section 129 and 130. Regardless, you know that you're going to be sitting near Dawg Fans as we'll have 40-50% of the tickets by game time.
If you have never ordered a 3 game pack or season tix pack from GT in the past, then you will be able to order the 3 game pack online on July 1 online
BTW -- 3 Game mini-pack customers should have gotten an email with a password that lets you order online now. But apparently, not all previous customers got it.
Good luck and Go Dawgs.
Note: Rumors surrounding an offer of 3 tickets, 2 cokes and a dime bag of pot autographed by Reuben Houston are false. Gailey will be the one doing the autographs.

Max Jean-Gilles makes the cover of the Game
University of Georgia Offensive Lineman Max Jean-Gilles graces the cover of EA Sports NCAA 2006 in this custom edition. Click on the photo to enlarge.
Sure, no OL will ever make the cover of EA Sports NCAA 2006. But with the way Big Max recruits for the Dawgs in Miami...he should get his own alternative cover shouldn't he?

Cool UGA Bulldog Decanter
This weekend I was hanging out with a friend. She's a HUGE bulldog fan, and she showed me her father's collection of Bourbon Decanters. I've never really known much about old decanters, but I went to eBay and saw some of the ones she had.
Here's my favorite one from Ezra Brooks circa 1971. Go Dawgs.
Here are a couple of links to guys selling this on Ebay:

Saw some other cool ones nnline including:
