Matt Stafford Videos - Color Me Impressed

On signing day, Coach Richt told Josh Kendall of the Macon Telegraph the following concerning Matt Stafford:
"Matthew came out of a very good system and has thrown just about every throw you’d like a quarterback to throw," Richt said.

"He would have been in the top two or three (quarterbacks) of any year I've been looking at tape," Richt said. "I think most everybody has read enough about the ability he has, but when you see it on film or in person, it's pretty exciting."

Let's look at what Richt was talking about.
He. Can. Do. It. All.

I can't wait for spring.

On the other hand, when CMR mentioned on CTSD last week that he was 235, 240 pounds, I thought he just had a little mental hiccup. Not the case unfortunately. I saw pictures of Stafford last week from on campus, he's huge. There's a picture of him standing next to Perez, and he's bigger than Perez. And unfortunately, it looks like gut weight too.

Hardly the end of the world, and no, it doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for what I think he can do, but on the other hand, 2 a days are going to be a cast iron kick in his ass if he's trying to haul all that weight around.

J-Load with a better arm? His footwork isn't all that great, he needs to set his feet at the next level. He gets away with it in high school, but Oliver and Flowers will eat some of those throws alive during spring drills. I figure Richt and Bobo will have that worked out by August, though. I can't wait for G-day!

Drizzle, that says two things:

1. Perez is every bit as undersized right now as I thought.

2. Stafford is overweight.

That's what Mat Drills and summer workouts are designed to fix.

Doesn't hurt my feelings if he plays at 235 or so. We don't need him to run 40 yards. Just get out of the way and not get hurt.

Stafford has always been a big guy, but he can still move well and a lot of that is just baby fat/holiday weight. It will come off in the spring...

and most Texas people you talk to will tell ya he's the best QB they've ever seen, period. If he would have been in that college skills competition this past weekend, he woulda won the long ball toss, no sweat.

Why couldn't we get some of those receivers.

Yeah, 240-pound QB's never amount to anything.

Can't imagine a fan base worried about his weight considering David Greene wasn't exactly slim pickens.

Watching him in Dallas even playing against my local HS, he does seem to have it all. (At least at the 4A HS level which is certainly good enough for 99% of the major colleges).

Like most Highland Parkers, he's certainly not used to losing which I know a lot of folks like to have that around. Starting in 1st grade, these kids always win all the way through youth sports, JR high, HS, etc. Never heard of an HP-based boys team that didn't win. It's a little homogenous community but they fare very well in most sports.

What I'm saying is the guy's a winner from a community of winners. Usually a good foundation to build the updated Richt offense around (bad news for the Vols and the rest of the SEC).

my son was a year ahead of matthew at HP...stafford broke his finger on a 30 YD post...as a junior...not a rope...it was a rifle shot...

he can throw the ball harder and further than ANY kid i ever saw, and he sees the field in slow motion...

his out route throws make the receivers look like they are running in slow motion...the ball explodes to the guys...if they are not ready when they turn around i have literally seen the ball knock them off their feet...

Matthew Stafford grew up two blocks from my home. Ask anyone from HP about the Wylie game in his junior year.

Fourth down on the Wylie 15. HP down by four. Last play of the game for HP. Stafford rolls to the left sideline, buys time, finds his receiver in the back corner of the end zone on the right side. Game over. HP wins.

If you have someone at Georgia who can make that throw under those conditions, start him.

Matthew Stafford is (by far) the best high school quaterback I have seen. He is a winner.

i think the kids gonna be a great asset, and it seems that summer work outs have worked some wonders bc the kid's down to 223

It's D-day for the QB's and I can understand the coach picking a Sr.to start but a redshirt freshman for 2nd...and Matt last. Very disapointing.
