UGA vs. Georgia Tech Projected TV Time

Image: Hipple

Back in August, Quinton McDawg recorded the prematurely leaked CBS SEC Football Schedule. A variety of things changed from the initial publication of that list due to certain unexpected events such as the collapse of Auburn and Tennessee as well as the meteoric rise of Alabama.

However, the CBS Double Header dates do not appear to have been altered. They get two double-header weekends per year under the current deal. One airs at 3:30 and 8:00 pm (UGA vs UT and LSU vs. UF) and the other airs at 12:00 and 3:30.

Unfortunately for us, the noon and 3:30 combo hasn't been used yet. Therefore, it appears that it will run on the last regular season weekend as initially leaked. That means, UGA vs. Georgia Tech will very likely have 12:00 pm kickoff on CBS.
SEC TV Contract Games for Nov. 29th:
Auburn at Alabama - Projected 3:30 CBS
Georgia Tech at Georgia - Projected 12:00 CBS
    Kentucky at Tennessee - TBD

    ACC TV Contract Games*:
    Florida at Florida State
    South Carolina at Clemson
    Vanderbilt at Wake Forest

Ouch. That's 11:00am for me. I might as well get drunk and stay up all night Friday.

So long as we avoid dreadful ABC I'm perfectly fine with a noon kick-off.

With Gary and Verne in Alabama who will they use as the noon crew?

Anonymous said...

For some reason I thought that ABC always carried the game.

Meh. At least they'll be able to get back to ATL for the D&D game in Wolowitz's basement at 7. I hear his Mom is serving mini-pizzas.

I don't recall the play-by-play guy, but the color analyst (if you can call him that) is Steve "Mike Rick" Burlein and heeeeeee sucks.

Well, an early KO usually favors the away team. And they've got the funky offense, but with a week off we should be ready to roll.

Not a big fan, but what do you do?

ABC carries the game when it's in Atlanta. ABC has rights to ACC home games. CBS has rights to SEC home games.

no one thinks cbs may be more attracted to cover fulmer's last game at tennessee?

Craig Bollerjack (sp?) does the CBS Back up game with Steve Burlein. They did the Tennessee game too.

BOOOOO!! Looks like I won't be drinking that Friday night...

This discussion makes little sense considering that CBS only has the right to perform two regular season doubleheaders. CBS will only show one game that Saturday we play Tech and they have to choose to show us and the Nerds or the Iron Bowl.

Past schedules are indicative of this. CBS shows the LSU-Arkansas game on Friday and then either Georgia-Georgia Tech or Florida-Florida State pending home team. Last year, CBS saved up one of their doubleheaders for the end of the season so that they could possibly get the Iron Bowl or if Tenn-UK was significant, which it was. CBS will after this weekend, have used up both of their doubleheader slots and thus will have to make a choice come Tech weekend. If UGA beats Auburn, the Iron Bowl likely goes to ESPN. Georgia-Georgia Tech has a lot of BCS and bowl implications and it is likely to be a 3:30 kickoff from Sanford Stadium. If Auburn wins or CBS passes us up, we get a night game on ESPN2.

I hear Wolowitz's mom serves the best mini pizzas.

What was the other CBS Double Header Weekend this Year? (One was UGA/UT and LSU/UF)

And why do you think #1 Ranked Alabama playing their unranked arch rival is going to be a bigger game than #10 or so ranked UGA playing their unranked rival?

Anonymous said...

the iron bowl is bigger because hands down its much bigger rivalry game than uga/gt(not to say uga/gt isn't a big one) but the iron bowl is ranked as the 4th best rivalry in college football by espn. plus with gt not playing in the SEC the game doesn't carry the same weight as it used too. while this years iron bowl doesn't matter as far as determining who wins the west, over the years it has gone a long way in determining the reperesentative from the west in SECCG

Plus anon 450, in past years, bama auburn was not the same weekend.

Matt Sarz, usually my go-to guy for TV stuff, has what Paul has. He may be basing that off the leaked schedule though. (http://mattsarz44017.tripod.com/2008/week14.html)

At any rate, UA-AU is without a doubt the bigger game this year, provided Bama beats Miss St this weekend, regardless of our game. You've got Alabama playing for the national title shot (and all that entails... Saban, the Bear, etc.) against its arch-arch-rival (one arch isn't enough), whose long-time coach's job may be on the line, but who can save a disappointing season with a win. And, not only that, but Alabama has NEVER beaten Auburn in Tuscaloosa. How's that for storyline?

Meanwhile, Georgia's playing for a CapOne Bowl slot while Tech is playing for... whatever it is middling ACC teams play for. It's interesting, especially with Richt's streak and a new coach at Tech, but not interesting enough. If it had been Georgia gunning for #1 rather than Bama, this game gets the money slot, Iron Bowl or not. Hell, this could have been two conference (or at least division) champions playing in a BCS-caliber game. But 'twas not to be.

Of course, if Bama loses this weekend, or if Georgia beats Auburn by 50, this could change. But don't bet on it.

Well at least its not Raycom!

What time has the Cap One bowl kicked off in the past few years? Surely not Outback bowl 9 AM if I remember, though it is early no doubt. . .

Anonymous said...

I'd say that AU-UA is a bigger game because they are not arch-rivals as much as they are arch-enemies.

Plus, who outside of GA really wants to watch us pound the nerds again?

Brett Lacy said...

Cap One should be a mid day kickoff. BCS bowls will have the prime time slots.

It should be Rose (always played on Jan 1) and Orange (b/c the field needs to be redone for the NCG later in the week)

Anonymous said...

I go to Tech and my balls smell funny.

Unknown said...

Cap one mid day is okay. So long as it's not that super early crap that UT and Wisconsin did last year in the Outback.

That's right, I remember catching the tail-end of Florida getting an ass-pounding by Michigan right before the Rose Bowl last year. Dang, we'll be bowling again before we know it. Why does it always fly past us so fast?

Anonymous said...

The Outback starts at 11 and the Cap One(along with the Gator) start at 1.

I wonder if Wolowitz's mom will serve up some mini pizza rolls instead, they are the bomb.

Drunk Bulldog fans.....imagine that. Oh and by the way ky Scott is back out of jail. Break out a new tube of KY jelly boys!!!!!

Just think if the Gators had played Auburn, I bet the score would not have been 17-13. Face the truth Georgia nation, your team is a sub par team at best!
Goooooo Gators!!!!!

Beaten by Auburn 2 years in a row? What?

Anonymous said...

Luckily Auburn wasn't in a position where they could kick a game-winning field goal.

Right, Gator?

Anonymous said...

@Gator in Georgia...

Yes the score to Florida Auburn would be a lot different from the Georgia one... The reason being is that your coach (Urban Meyer) is an asshole that gets off to running the score up on teams...

**shakes my head**

I can't wait until Tebow leaves UF & ya'll will be a "sub par" team at its best..

For some reason, SI has the GTU game listed as 11:00am.

Why does'nt Carter and ky Scott get together and have a little love fest.

We suck.

Two examples:

Randall Cobb: 11/26, 0 Tds , 2 INT vs Vanderbilt.

“The thing I like the most about Knowshon the last two weeks in particular is just how he’s practiced,” Richt said. “Not that he doesn’t always practice well but he’s just had a different attitude starting two Tuesdays ago and it hasn’t changed since. I don’t know if people got under his skin about him taking himself out of the game but, if so, thank you.”

This is BULLSHIT. Where the F*** is the COACHING??

Whats the good word? To HELL with Georgia!

Jackass UF fans are the BEST!! How is Ole Miss this year guys? I havent been watching them much this year

Astronaut Mike Dexter said...

It's comforting knowing that, despite having just pasted their old coach by 50 points and despite having an SEC title game (and perhaps a national title game) to look forward to, we're still in Florida fans' heads enough for them to come on here and talk smack about a game that happened two weeks ago.

It must suck to know that no matter how well you do, no matter how many national titles you win, you still can't get any closure on your obsession with us overrated, undercoached, lame-ass Dawgs.

Yep, these are the same people that think jorts are fashionable.

I can't do anything but hear it, myself, because it is painfully obvious that the program has done a complete 360: we are now, this season, right where we were a year ago when we struggled to beat Vanderbilt essentially the same way we beat Auburn and Kentucky this year.

I have no idea what i would say to motivate the players after getting thoroughly dismantled in a game that the season hung on. It might have been this we way even if we had played well and lost. But this I do know about: this team is mentally soft, undisciplined, and are not buying whatever the coaches are selling.

I hope we get the mojo back so we can head into next year with some enthusiasm, and I hope that some way some how Stafford and Moreno are back so we can try to develop a stronger team built around lessons learned from this year.

But I'm not sure about, though; Jeff Schultz is right when he writes about the "any win is a good win" mentality. That approach leads to EXACTLY what we're seeing: Just enough is good enough.

Am I misunderstanding this: http://www.sportsline.com/cbssports/schedules/page/collegefootball

CBS is taking LSU/Miss at 3.30. Where does that leave things?

Squarebush said...

Josh,

LSU/Miss is the week before the UGA/GT game.

@squarebrush Doh. Forgot about the offweek. Thanks for that.

Let the child go away. Feeding his moronic babbling doesn't do anything. The kid supports Florida.. isn't that insult enough?

If gloating like insufferable assholes is their way of showing pride in their University, then let them do it.

Go Dawgs, and To Hell with Georgia Tech.
