My Top 25 Blog Poll Ballot: How they faired (week 2)

Week 2 Ballot:
1. Southern Cal - Idle

2. Texas - Beat OSU. This is a good football team and baring Mack Brown screwing it up, should run the table.

3. Iowa - Drew Tate was injured for most of the game as they lost to ISU. ISU was thought to stink this year.

4. Michigan - Michigan needs coaching help across the board. Too much talent to make so few plays.

5. Tennessee - IDLE. The game with Florida will tell us a lot. I'm predicting a UF win.

6. Georgia - A game like that isn't atypical for UGA vs. SC. David Greene had a variety of games like that vs. the Cocks.

7. Louisiana State - Urban Meyer had to be licking his chops over the prospect of facing that secondary. What the hell is Les Miles doing with that defensive talent to allow such a bloodletting through the air?

8. Louisville - IDLE

9. Ohio State - Not really sure what to do with these guys after they lost to the Longhorns.

10. Virginia Tech - So they beat Duke silly. What does that tell us? Ron New Mexico continues to improve.

11. Purdue - The next 4 weeks will define the entire Purdue season. A road game against Arizona, then a road game with Minnesota, then Notre Dame and Iowa at home.

12. Florida - This week's battle with Tennessee is everything.

13. Florida State - Pat Conroy's new book will detail the saga of The Citadel's second half implosion.

[Photo: After giving up 50+ second half points The Citadel players will probably surpress their memories of this game much like the kid from the Prince of Tides.]

14. Miami - IDLE

15. Oklahoma - Did I hear this properly. They didn't complete a pass in the 2nd half?

16. Virginia - IDLE

17. Texas Tech - I was driving home late last night and ESPN radio made it sound like the guy passed for 4 TDs and ran for 5 more. If that had been true, there would have been an article devoted entirely to that.

18. Boston College - I know that FSU has zero offense. I really do.

19. Oregon - The Ducks beat a team of lumberjacks from Montana senseless. Watch for them to slip up vs. Fresno State in the classic "look past this one" game pre-their home game with USC.

20. Arizona State - Their special teams coach should resign and save everyone the paperwork of having to fire him after they pissed away this game to LSU.

21. Georgia Tech - The Jackets continue to improve. It would be so typical of a Gailey coached team to lose to UConn this week in another "look past the chumps" game. VT vs. GT is in 2 weeks.

22. Auburn - Did as expected vs an outmatched Miss State squad.

23. Notre Dame - I have a ranking better than Top 10 for these guys in mind.

24. Colorado - Continues to improve. Miami on the road will answer the question "Is this team more similar to George Jefferson or Nick Nolte". George is moving on up. Nick is in free fall.

25. Clemson - Because someone has to be 25th.

Other thoughts around College Football:
TCU - See, I told you it was too soon to rank them.

Nebraska - Scored 10 points on offense vs. Wake Forest. The other 3 TDs were on defense. What's the odds on Callahan making it through Year 3?

- Bama - Right now, I think Bama would take OU. Thus, OU won't be ranked on my Week 3 Ballot. But Bama will.

small nit to pick: "fared" not "faired"

There are many typos. More than that.

I'm guessing you won't have any Big 10 teams in the top 10.

Alabama might beat OU.

I wouldn't put Colorado in any poll until they've beat someone. Didn't CSU get hammered this week, after a small loss to CU in Boulder?

ISU was not supposed to be much, but not much will probably win the Big 12 North. Is there any division (or major conference in the US) that is weaker than the Big 12 north?

I think Callahan gets a 3rd year just because most guys, without serious legal or institutional problems get a 3rd year. Beyond that, I think he's gone. I'm still amazed the Big Red thought he was the answer. Of course, I'm not sure big name guys were lining up for the job. After all, they interviewed Houston Nutt (coach of a team that very easily could only win 3 games this year after losing to Vandy at home).
