Fair is Fair: Marcus Howard Gets Kudos

I've said a few times that Marcus Howard at DE makes little sense to me b/c he's so small. Watching him get mauled by OTs from Auburn last year was tough to watch. 220 lbs vs. 330 lbs is tough to watch on a running play.

That said, Richt has been aggressive in his praise of Howard lately. Richt obviously knows best on this issue. So here's the link (near the bottom).

If Howard is physically maturing enough to be a help on something other than 3rd and long, that's HUGE for a DE corp that is tremendously lacking in depth. Great offseason news.

I saw Marcus Howard in Charleston at the Touchdown club his senior year in HS when Richt came to speak. He is not very big, so I was really surprised they moved him to end. He looked to me like he would end up at strong safety or linebacker, depending on his speed and how much weight he put on. From what I understand he comes off the ball awfully quick for a DE, but I wouldn't think you'd want him on contain on 1st down with a big OT in his face. Maybe in the mold of Josh Mallard, who picked up a lot of sacks his Jr and Sr years, but Howard still weighs less than Mallard did, I think.

Anon - at times last year, he weighed about the same than Minter...a CB.

If he's 240, he's a little smaller than Will Thompson was his JR and SR years. You can make 240 work on situational plays. 215-220 is just asking for trouble.
