Because we're nuts, we're kicking off at 12:00 vs. WKU

Update: It looks like the game will be at 12:30 afterall. The JP site's 12:00 listing apparently deals with the start time of their telecast. Not of the game. - pwd

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun had this one first. Although, IronChefTurducken had the more accurate info from Lincoln Financial.

Apparently, the Gators didn't want to start their season at 12:30 vs. Southern Miss in the sweltering Florida heat. So they convinced the SEC to let them play at 6:00 pm. The SEC still needs a game for 12:00, so UGA will play WKU at that time on Lincoln Financial Sports (formerly known as JP Sports).

Why would UGA play a game at 12:00 in the slamming early season heat, while the Gators are so smart as to play one at 6:00 pm?

In my opinion, it's because Mike Adams is hell bent on having an early game kickoff to showcase how his new tailgate restrictions reduced trash and unruly fan behavior. Never mind the fact that everyone tailgates less for small games.

If you weren't planning on attending the game, this is a huge win for you. You'll be able to see it on TV. If you were planning to attend the game, it absolutely blows.

I think that Lincoln Financial sports starts their broadcast coverage at 12:00pm with kickoff actually coming at 12:30 pm.

Just a little clarification.

I think that's a molehill you're pointing out but it's hard to tell because you're sure trying to make it look like a mountain. So our AA scrimmage game is going to start at a AA scrimmage time? Sound about right to me. I'm surprised we're not playing Friday night so Western Kentucky can play at the same time as all the other high school teams.

I think we're taking the fall here so we can talk our way out of starting a real football game at such an unopportune time the next time someone has to start at noon.

I don't think it's that big of a deal really. The normal kickoff time for our first game scrub is 1:00. Heck, it might even be a little cooler for the first hour of the game than it would have been otherwise.

Alabama talked their way out of the LF broadcast too. Slive originally said he would decided whether it'd be Florida/USM or Alabama/Hawai'i but I guess they decided to go elsewhere.

Alabama wanted to show off all of the bells and whistles they just dropped $54 million on and thought opening the season at night would be the best way to do it.

I really thought Slive was going to make us play the early game.

glad i got those ND vs Tech tickets now. I'll be able to watch the game in its entirty before I even head down there to bobby dodd.

Think its possible to do two games in one day?

First, as others have pointed out, this game would likely be a 1pm game even without the TV.

Second, it's good to see that pwd has moved beyond his Adams preoccupation.

Third, please recall that good 'ol Vince never wanted to schedule these early-seasons scorchers at night, either.

I don't like these games being played in the afternoon in early September any more than the next guy, but playing them in the afternoon is not an Adams innovation.

The only difference between the Swamp at 11:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. is likelihood of sunburn and BAC. It'll still be more habitable between the hedges.

You'll need gills to breathe in that mess.

the 1:00 "traditional start" only exists b/c we went 50 years without lights.

The last time we started the season at 1:00 was ARK state in 2001.

Blame Whitey. That's my new nickname for Michael Adams.

Dude. I have to wake up earlier for the first game than i do for my first day of class. that's ridiculous.

Puts new meaning to the 7:00 am shotgun start. I'll have to leave MRT at about 5:45 just to get up there in time for some decent tailgate action. Guess our tailgate will be cooking biscuits, ham, eggs and gravy. I hate when UGA plays on LFS (JP).

Like you said, I was planning on having to watch or listen to the game because of an out of town wedding so I'm happy. Yah for Tivo!

The lights were installed in, what, 1980,1982? I suppose it took everybody (read: Vince) two decades to realize that they were there.

What really gets me is that graphic. It looks like an ephemeral Hilltopper hand throwing in the proverbial bloody towel. I guess it's better than their costumed mascot which, with all due respect, looks like what would happen if Ralph Friedgen fell into a vat of strawberry Kool-Aid.
