If Grantland Rice and John Grisham had a love child

Their love child couldn't write a sports quote better than this one from Auburn's Will Herring on the academic scandal on the Plains:
"It has not been a distraction, not to the team," linebacker Will Herring said. "Has it been fair? I can say it hasn’t been fair, but life’s not fair, you know? We’ve climbed up to the top of the nation academically and when you’re on top, people want to shoot you down."
EDSBS has more on this quote and the latest on the Auburn mess. In the meantime, we should have an SAT style analogy contest.

Auburn is to The Top of the Academic Mountain as...
    Pam Anderson is to Virgin
    Elvis is to Subtle
    Phil Fulmer is to Skinny
    James Brooks is to Literate
Lambeau Field is to Heat Stroke
Rich Brooks is to Steve Spurrier
Feel free to add more.

pwd

(BTW - Auburn lost its first recruit partially due to the academic scandal when N. Ball commited over the weekend to play DE at UGA. Source: AJC)

Lit matches are to gasoline.

AU is on top of the academic mountain? What mountain might that be? Mount Opelika?

the really sad part is that this kid probably believes it, and thousands of overall wearing, Red Man spittin', stump jumpers wearing orange AU hats are jabbing each other in the arm across Alabama, saying "You tell 'em, boy."

I hate Auburn.

Like I have always said - If you can't go to college go to Florida, If you can't go to Florida then go to Auburn.

PWD:

my theory is that Herring was referring to an ACTUAL geographic place, rather that expressing himself metaphorically.

For example, I've heard GTU people talk about "The Hill" because their academic/admininistration building is, oddly enough, up on a hill. Maybe Auburn's academic building (now there's an oxymoron for you) is up on top of a hill, which to some rube from Andalusia, looks like a mountain. It's only a quick leap of logic (such as it is) to an "academic mountain" of sorts.

Or, Will Herring could be more full of crap than a sewage treatement plant, just like that noted defender of academic achievement and integrity, Coach Tommy Tuberville.

"We’ve climbed up to the top of the nation academically."

Going with the "geographical location" interpretation, perhaps Auburn's giving class credit now for mountain hiking.
