congrats to UT

They played well, and we played like complete and total crap in the second half.

Hats off to them though. They made the plays to beat our brains in. Beyond that, it's probably a good idea for me to take a deep breath til after breakfast.

I disagree. We did not play that bad. If we take away the 1st interception and the blocked punt then we played well. I believe that we were in a sense robbed by horrible calls.

I know that people always blame the refs but here is reasons to blame them tonight.
1. The second interception was the result of defensive holding on MoMass.
2. The lack of pressure on Ainge was the result of severe and blatant holding
3. The missed TD to Lumpkin may have been over thrown a bit but there was pass interference which prevented a proper jump as well as helmet to helmet contact from the free safety.
4. There was no pass interference on Meachem when Tra Battle went for the ball. Tippy-tappy foul.
5. The generous spot on 3rd and 8 which was a pass that was bobbled and forward progress should not have been assessed.
6. The inability of the refs to call helmet to helmet contact on the QB when JT3 gets up and has to but his helmet back on.

There were some others but these were the ones that seemed be the momentum breakers. I know that there are times when the offense gets down during winning games but come on. We were not perfect the 2nd half but there is not way it was that big of a swing in talent and intensity. I believe that the refs made some seriously bad calls that kept momentum in UT's hands.

Wow anonymous...
Its just a game and he made some valid points. Your right tackling was bad but it all adds up.
Put down the whiskey dude do you realize what you just posted?

i have to agree with anonymous. how many times will our defense let us down against teams of equal talent...

The covers are off Willie Martinez. The bigger the game, the poorer prepared his defense seems to be. We saw Colorado run the same play to the tight end all day long with no adjustment by Martinez. We saw Tennessee absolutely expose and mock our pathetic zone coverage last night with no adjustment and no ability to put any kind of pressure whatsoever on Ainge.

Martinez has a passive defensive scheme. His defenses typically do not attack attack attack. He designed his game plan not to give up the big play. Congratulations, it worked. They torched our ass for 51 points on relentless third down conversions and very modest passes. They took exactly what we gave them and we never tried to adjust in the second half.

Granted, all the turnovers and other breakdowns meant we had lost the field position battle, but if we had been able to make effective tackles some of those drives might have stalled or settled for field goals.

I am over Willie Martinez.

Neither team's defense could hold the other team which makes me wonder why in the world, Coach Richt decides on a 2nd and 3 on our 12 to throw a slant. Our running game was killing them and we had the lead.

Joe T was managing the game fine, leading the team, throwing on the sides with both screen type plays and fly routes...

but Coach tries to force the issue. If it's going to be a shoot out, then give your team the best chance to win.

Then to throw the cherry on top for ut, Richt decides on 3rd and 3 to do the same thing resulting in another interception. I didn't think it was possible for a coach to throw 2 picks until last night.

It's obvious Joe T is not the most talented guy in the world, so why does richt try to get him to do things he simply can't do.

UT very well may have one the game anyway, but it would be an easier pill to swallow if I felt the coach at least gave us a fighting chance.

It's like he felt we had to have huge plays all night to win the game when all we needed was to pound them like they were pounding us.

Just venting. Hopefully, we'll get it together and bring something to FLA

I need to apologize to the Bulldawg Nation

Seriously. After things went south for us in the second half last night, I became a raging asshole. I'm really about the most laid back, easygoing guy you'd know, but the frustration and alcohol got to me (not an excuse - I used poor judgement and drank more than I should).

I was cussing rather loudly and being a complete obnoxious p*ick on the way out of the stadium and on the way back to the car (I wasn't driving, so don't worry). I had two seperate people ask me to tone it down and didn't pay them any mind. I probably deserved to be clocked right in the face.

I sincerely apologize to any and all of you. I made a fool out of myself and made a bad impression on UGA. I'm posting this on the UGA websites I frequent as an attempt to somehow help right the wrongs.

I hate that we lost (after winning in the first half too!!) but I feel even worse about my actions of last night.

First off - it is always a great day to be a Georgia Bulldawg!!

I agree Dawgnoxious about CWM 100% - the mind-numbing lack of any type of adjustment was beyond belief. Not that it wasn't obvious, but once Todd Blackledge mapped out exactly how TN was getting the slot receiver open over and over and over again - it got embarassing to stomach as a fan.

I get the whole read, react zone philisophy we like to play - and most weeks it is the way to go - but last night wasn't one of those nights.

Time to regroup and get ready for Vandy....

GO DAWGS!!

With the zone & Martinez...

I have been more than a little critical on my own site. I don't advocate completely switching from a laid-back zone to a blitz-happy zero coverage. But, how about switching from a cover two to a cover three? That takes away the seam pattern down the middle and the go routes on the outside, which are the two passes that Tennessee kept hitting for big plays. It's the lack of these types of adjustments that drive me crazy. That's not even terribly complex. It's pretty simple, really.

I couldn't understand why CMR stopped running the ball on our (Tenn.'s) defense. We couldn't stop it at all the first half and had a hard time 2nd.

As far as the calls go, they went both ways. Wade's interception on the slant could have been called for pass int. but it was right off of the ball and they rarely call that. The TD to lumpkin was just lumpkin and our defender colliding for the ball, he was already falling before there was contact, no way that was pass int. Lumpkin had the facemasking penalty and then when he had a 20+ yard run later in the game did the exact same thing and should have been called back. You TACKLED our punter Colquitt on your TD punt return and that wasn't called either. The only time you did sack Ainge your defender kicked him in the face and stepped on his stomach getting up, completely disregarding any form of sportsmanship. Funny you didn't mention these.

Overall I think your defense would have been better off with some more blitz packages than staying in a zone prevent most of the night. Please don't do that against Florida. Everybody wearing Orange is going to be pulling for you.

Georgia is not a bad football team by any means and I don't think you're gonna go 8-4 so all these people saying your season is over need to take a step back and look at the rest of your schedule. Get Tereshinski healthy and run over some of these teams.

If you had told me before the game that we would put up 33 points, I would have said a W was a certainty. CWM vs. David Cutcliffe was a mismatch. I think Martinez is in over his head. Does he even watch film? We are an elite program- it is time to bring in an elite DC. Would not hurt matters for CMR to relinquish the play calling duties, too.

First of all, I saw the Battle sack, he was merely excited and trying to get up quickly and both he and Ainge were tangled up. I really doubt he meant to kick him in the head. As for the Lumpkin thing, tell when was the last time you ever heard of an OFF player getting called for a stiff arm. Yeah, that is what I thought, never. Actually, there were a few calls here and there, but I really didn't think it was that bad of a game called. It certainly didn't really affect the outcome. However, the one "play" I really would have loved to seen flagged was the completely classless elbow shiver one of UT'S COACHES!!! threw at an UGA player who had come over to help with a tackle and wasn't even looking in the direction of that coach. I looked at the guy next to me and said, "Did I just see one one their coaches PUNCH a UGA player?!"
He said, "Yes, but I think it was actually his elbow, not his fist." I hope the TVs got the image, and the coach is fined by the SEC.

I'm no apologist for the referees, but the facemask call on Lumpkin was, sad to say, richly deserved. They ran it back on the TV replay about three times, and he literally grabbed the DB by the facemask, dragged him along about 5 yards out of bounds, and twisted his head at the end of the drag. He just about pulled the guy's helmet off.

Now, I dont know if he did all that on purpose. I love the way he runs, and he's not usually one to make a stupid personal foul. That said, when the zebra sees that happen RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS EYES, he really has no choice but to flag the guy.

And yes, the UT coach who laid the elbow smash on one of our guys cheapshotted the hell out of our guy. I'm not sure which coach it was, and the announcers (for whatever reason) chose not to mention it, but the UT coach stepped up as our guy was trailing the play and just whacked him. UT is no class at all, but since they pretty much kicked our asses the second half, I guess that just sounds like sour grapes. But, boy, is it true.

All School,

Jim Hipple sent me a 3-4 photo sequence of the face mask. I'll upload it tonight.

It looks like his finger got caught up in the mask, and he was trying to pull it out.

He's lucky he didn't break a finger in the guy's mask.

I came down to Athens this weekend. As a visiting fan, I must say you folks are just plain ignorant before the game and far from that after. Cussing, spitting, talking smack about my (12 year old) daughters UT cheerleading outfit. You guys don't have to go to the swamp, but if you did you could see how to talk trash with class. It was nice to see your team go down in flames. BTW...I guess we got the last word in. UT FOOTBALL ROCKS!!

PWD:

I dont know what the stop action photo sequence looks like, and I have no idea what Lumpkin's intent was, but watching the replay a couple of times, the impression I got was that he had a five finger grab on the facemask and deserved the flag.

It may not have been intentional, but I can easily see how a ref seeing it in front of him in real time would CALL it as intentional.

Just one more misery in a game full of them, I guess. I'm not throwing Lumpkin under the bus, but it didnt seem that particular call was a travesty.

Thanks Hobnail,

I think we stuck a hobnail between your eyes, or however that increadibly lame saying goes. I guess that is the standard for a school that has "who let the dogs out" for thier official fight song, right? You guys are hopeless. Bring back Goff!
