Hoops: GT recap

Image: georgiadogs.com

There are no moral victories in sports, but tonight's outcome was one I can live with. Georgia lost to Tech 78-69. The team was without point guard Sundiata Gaines due to injury. Mike Mercer is a solid player, but he's not a point guard. The box score showed 18 turnovers for the Dawgs. It felt like 30. Mercer had 7 turnovers, but it seemed like a dozen.

Pre-game, I said the keys to the game were Turnover/Pace, Free Throw Shooting and Three Point Shooting. Georgia never got past point #1. Tech dictated the tempo and pace of the game to us, and that was that.

We are what I thought we were going into the game. We're a 7 to 9 win SEC team that likes to run, struggles with the half court offense, but has a chance to go dancing. I still feel that way. Tech is talented, and they've got a big season ahead of them. We need to get Gaines healthy, and we need to become more disciplined in our decision making.

Most of our problems can be fixed with coaching and time.

I thought it was a really good game. You guys are definitely very athletic. One or two more classes with true b-ball players and not just athletes and you should be a force for years to come.

That Brown kid is ENORMOUS.

As I was watching Mercer struggle all night, the camera did a close-up on a player where you could clearly see the "Do it for Broph" patch. We really could have used that young man last night. God Bless Kevin Brophy.

Really no where to comment in relation to the BCS game on the site so I figured I'd throw it on the most recent post...

Do you realize that if Ohio State wins the BCS that there is a clause that becomes void where Jim Tressel would be able to negotiate with any team at the college or pro level without having to buying his contract out with Ohio State. An incentive put in during his last contract extension so if he won again then he'd pretty much be getting a restructured contract with more money. But still, with Alabama sitting on their hands, makes you wonder if they know this and are going to wait and see if he wins so they can throw 20 million dollars at him to try to lure him away after Saban turns them down for the 234932843298 time........just to be turned down by Tressel as well.
