I'm almost ready to upgrade the site to the three column design.
Tell me what you think.

-- Update: I tweaked the colors to try and provide more of a visual anchor into the main content areas. Basically, I reduced the side bar header font size and went from red to dark grey. Does that help?
Does the Test Site work for you? Does anything get chewed up and look gnarly in your browser? What did I forget?
I've gone retro, and I'm ignoring the new blogger functionality in favor of doing exactly what I want/know how to do in HTML. The biggest thing I'm struggling with...how the hell do I make the article headline an active link? On this site, if you click on the headline...something happens. On the new site...nothing. Any of you have any idea on that?

looks ok to me.
i like it a lot. much better.
I understand your desire to promote affiliates, etc., but to me the three column look is way too busy. Once you scroll down there is no visual anchor. I like the clean design you've got going. My $.02. Either way thanks for doing what you do.
Agree w/ anon @ 11:17. Guess I've just grown used to your current format.
I like the layout and bigger banner, but I do get anon's point about no "visual anchor." Maybe you can make the center column stand out better by using different color(white text on black/dark gray rather than red) or texture (red engraved or embossed text on red bar) title bars on the outer columns?
i feel like it is a bit too busy design wise
PWD:
In the test site, there is only a closing link ("a") tag after the headline, but no opening tag. Your template must be missing this.
That has to be at least part of the problem b/c your CSS specifies the post headline to be black if it's a link.
Shoot me an e-mail and I'd be happy to help you out: davidDOTakins@gmail
The visual anchor issue is my biggest concern with the new design.
There is too much stuff happening in the new look. I prefer the older one.
The image link at the top (the Georgia Sports Blog header) works in IE6.
It's your blog and I'm sure it will be great either way, but I like the way it is now. It is clean, uncluttered, and to the point.
Fair comments.
One thing I just(10:00 am) did was move all the links (blog roll) stuff to one side and all the ads to the other side. So everything is in a more logical structure now.
It really isn't anything "new" on the site except for:
1. One new ad for SportsCrack T-shirts
2. Two less ads (one less for tix and less less Google ad.
The problem is that you guys never noticed some of the stuff I wanted you to see that is way, way down the right hand side of the nav bar in the current 2 column design.
i like the current look much better.
pwd,
I think the changes to color and text size work and look better.
I'd suggest a couple of other small changes. Your sig and comment # bars at the end of posts don't contrast very well with the background and would work better in a different color (even if you went with white).
Given that each post is boxed and dated, you probably don't need any dividers between posts. If you keep the line divider between posts on different days, I'd dress it up some.
I agree with some of the comments about the visual anchor, but honestly I think it is just because it is new. You know how when a girlfriend gets a new haircut, it can take some time to get used to? Well, that's how I feel now, but I am sure I will get used to it.
FYI, I use Safari (Mac) and I didn't notice any technical issues.
any chance I can talk you into flipping the links to the right, and the ads to the left? I think that's what's throwing me off right now, as far as orientation goes. Design wise, it's a nice clean site.
the site with 3 columns is a lot cleaner with the ad placement on the right and the links on the left. i like the 3 column. easily navigatable...even a caveman can do it!
thanks PWD. you do good work.
