David Cutcliffe to Duke?

Keep your fingers crossed tonight. One of the biggest thorns in Georgia's side could be removed tomorrow. Tennessee Offensive Coordinator David Cutcliffe appears to have been offered the head coaching job at Duke according to The Knoxville News. The paper also reports that he's prepared to accept the position.

Phil Fulmer's record vs. Georgia when he doesn't have David Cutcliffe on staff is 2-5. However, Fulmer and Cutcliffe together have produced a staggering record of 10-0 9-0 against the Dawgs.

Coach Martinez gives his opinion on this story

If he should accept the position at Duke, no one will be happier than Willie Martinez. Hell, Willie could've provided a reference for the guy.

WOW. Great news!!

But, what a horrible decision by Cutcliffe....

I'm thrilled that he might be leaving.

And I think it's a good move for Cutcliffe. He's probably going to be making 5x what he was as OC at Tennessee.

Mark Richt is 4-3 against Fulmer. Wins came in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005. Losses came in 2004, 2006, and 2007.

Strange move by Cutcliffe, but a great hire by Duke. That this team could land a guy who was once a head coach in a BCS conference is astonishing. There's huge- HUGE- work to be had concerning facilities and recruiting, but with as wide open and mostly crummy as the ACC is, I think Cutcliffe could land a QB stud down the line.

Duke considered Dorrell? Interesting.

Duke...where coaches go to die.

I thought that was South Carolina?

I wasn't talking about Richt vs. Fulmer.

I was talking about UGA vs. Fulmer with and without Cutcliffe.

So yes....Richt is 4-3 vs. Fulmer.

PWD- I was responding to the poster who deleted his post.

And yeah, USC > Duke in terms of killing coaches. Think- Spurrier won the ACC his third year at Duke. His third year in Columbia? Not so much.

Duke can more accurately described as where BAD coaches go to die. Fred Goldsmith. Carl Franks. Ted Roof, who was hired off the strength of beating Reggie Ball. Yeesh.

Cutcliffe is easily their best coach since the Ol Ball Coach.

I know you were. So was I. No worries.

I just didn't notice that he deleted it before I responded. I still get the posts via email even if they are deleted.

If he doesn't go, I'm hoping Cut's success in the Richt era has just been Ainge. He seems to have our # but he's gone now. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Still hope Cut goes to Duke, though.

Just read that they should be announcing him as HC of Duke on Monday morning.

Maybe he can take Van Gorder with him. That would kill 2 birds with one stone. Might even make those guys a more competitive team.

Yeah the good news is David Cutcliffe going to Duke but the bad news is that Houstan Nutt is now at Ole Miss and that's very bad for us. I was glad that we never had to play the Razorbacks because they NEVER gave up when Nutt was head coach.(watch the LSU game again) and the Razorbacks are the only team in NCAA history to win a game after 7 overtimes and the did it twice!! Go Dawgs !!!
