Sugar Bowl News & Tickets

The Athletic Department has announced all season ticket holders who requested Sugar Bowl seats will get them. UGA has sold over 22,000 tickets in the pre-order period. For those of you with scores of below 6,000, remember to bring your oxygen mask, crampons, and a Sherpa because your seats at the Superdome are likely to be over 6,000 feet from the action. It will be a climb.

Also, Coach Richt announced that the Dawgs will wear their black jerseys again for the Sugar Bowl. Fans are asked to take the blackout on the road, all the way to New Orleans. Uh, don't the Warriors wear black, too?

The black jerseys are sweet. We will be 90% of the crowd anyway so it will be pretty much a home game. BLACKOUT the dome!!!!

One of two things will happen Jan 1.

Scenario A- Happy-assed Hawaii is going to bring their cute offense to a REAL football game where there is going to be THOUSANDS of angry Bulldawgs ready to rip the Volcano-crawlers a new one.

Scenario B- UGA thinks this game is in the bag, doesn't show up to play (see trip to Knox, TN 2007), and gets embarrassed by yet another gimmicky WAC offense and I go home from yet another Sugar Bowl pissed off.

TIME TO GET MAD AND TAKE IT OUT ON SOMEBODY!!!

CORRECTION, UGA doesn't get embarrassed again by a gimmicky WAC offense, another BCS team gets embarrassed by a gimmicky WAC offense (ie. Oklahoma v. Boise State).

As the home team, we get to pick jerseys. Hawai'i will have to wear their light colored unis, whatever that is.

Was face Value $125?

I can't remember and can't find the order form.

Hawaii would wear white.

There will be few Hawaii fans there.

Hawaii must have been getting ready to go on the road since it wore white AT HOME this past game.

I would love to be a Hawaii football player---the frequent flier miles must rock.

UGA will not underestimate Hawaii. Richt thinks they were not quite ready for WVU a couple of years ago. He does not seem to make the same mistake twice.

As for "gimmickly" offenses, screw that. The offense that allows a team to win is a fine offense. Boise actually ran a pretty sound offense last year. They ran a lot of "trick" plays, however, they were a team that RAN the ball very well (and still do).

Not sure about the black jerseys. Might be going to the well too soon and too often.

Watching the guys on ESPN is like watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy discussing Will and Grace episodes.

you know, i can't really decide what I want to happen in this "national championship game." On one hand, it'd be kinda fun to see another SEC team wipe the floor with OSU again, but I think it'd also be fun to see LSU lose in 3OT so that after the game, Les Miles can argue that even though LSU lost the national championship game, they NEVER LOST IN REGULATION, and OSU lost a game in regulation, so doesn't that make LSU better? It clearly must...

If UGA beats Hawaii, then the title game is win/win for Georgia fans. LSU winning would further validate the SEC's strength going forward and might also help start to diminish the image of the Big Ten.

If LSU loses, it will feel like redemption for those of us who know that UGA is just a better team than the one from Baton Rouge.

I've always said, "When in doubt, pull for the SEC."

We gain nothing by LSU losing to Ohio State. It makes us all look better when we have the national champ in our neighborhood...AND WE HAVE TO PLAY THEM.

Pulling for the gators last year against OSU was tough. It's kind of like pulling for your neighbor who won't mow his yard and has a couch on his front porch. But it's better than having to listen to Big Ten fans claim superiority over the SEC.

Ever since the BCS (which I hate) started, the SEC has won the MNC when given a chance (Tennessee in '98, LSU in '03, Florida in '06). Every other major conference has blown it at least once:

ACC - Florida State in '98 and 2000.

Big East - Virginia Tech (at that time) in '99, Miami (at that time) in '02.

Big Ten - Ohio State in '06

Big Twelve - Oklahoma in '03 and '04, Nebraska in '01.

Pac-Ten - USC in '05.

So how can you not put the SEC champion in the BCS championship every year if no one else has a better record and is their respective conference champion?

Plus, it's my opinion that if your conference doesn't have a championship game, it's a second-tier conference.

GO DAWGS, GO SEC, AND GO LSU!!!

I don't root for the SEC because of Penn Wagers.

It's a valid point. This conference clearly cares nothing for UGA, so know what? Screw them, then. I hope every single other SEC team loses by 50. Eat it, Mike Slive.

these black jerseys are going to lose their luster real quick if we pull them out to play teams like Hawaii.

Anonymous said...

don't hate on the black jerseys. the sugar bowl is a special moment... wear your black and be loud. show these hawaii fighting rainbows what real football is like

Does Mike Slive even know who the hell his head coaches are? This was taken out of a chat on bcsfootball.org

Q. The rules say you don't have to play in that game. Do you need to address the rules to make that more clear? Mark Richter said so.

MIKE SLIVE: I think Coach Richter has had a great year. You know, has indicated that he might want us to revisit the idea about the champion rule. That's what I thought I heard him say a few minutes ago. We've done that a couple of times.

Georgia has had especially a great finish to their season, and then obviously co champions of our eastern division, lost the tiebreaker to Tennessee, didn't make it to our championship game. Maybe therein lies the difference.

I can't tell if Mike Slive is that much of an idiot or he is just reading the moron's question on the screen and instinctivly typed "Richter"

In my mind, here is what I would like to see happen.

1. UGA players get really pissed off.
2. UGA handily beats Hawaii- something like 38-13
3. USC beats Illinois - 32-20
4. OU beats WVU - 24-7
5. Kansas slips by VT - 21-20
6. In one of the craziest games ever, LSU edges out tOSU 3-2. Each team has 3-4 turnovers and at least 5 punts a piece.
7. WIth LSU winning quite unconvincingly, VT losing and UGA & OU both winning big and both Big 10 teams being discredited, the pollsters are split and there is at least a 2-way, if not a 3-way split MNC.

The BCS, media experts and the like are all embarrassed.

Then UGA comes back next year on a mission. With a chip on their should and something to prove they dominate next season and run the table.
1a. Win first 2 games in convincing fashion.
1b. Whip South Carolina 35-0 and run Spurrier's record against the SEC East to 0-4 after that trash he talked this year.
2. Show the Pac 10 what football is all about against ASU. Win 27-6
3. Put Saban's rebuilding on hold and win 31-3
4. Erase any memory of the past 2 years against Tenn with a 48-3 win over the Vols.
5. Beat Vandy 31-10.
6. Crush that pompous idiot Les Miles and LSU 42-10
7. Make it 2-in-a-row against Florida 24-20
8. Beat Kentucky 35-13
9. Destroy Auburn 41-9
10. Make it 8-in-a-row against Tech 42-7
11. Beat LSU again in the SECCG 31-0
12. Play OU or USC for MNC

I want us to come out and give teams no mercy. If we are up big, I don't want to give up any junk TDs whether the starters are out there or the 2nd team. When Joe Cox comes in to spell Stafford because of our lead, I want to see the offense driving down the field and putting up points.
I want every team we face to know without a doubt that the best team they played all year is The Georgia Bulldogs.

Will it be easy? No. I mean Central Michigan won the MAC and aside from GSU, they are the "easy" team on the schedule. But I believe that we will put 1 of the top 4 teams in the nation on the field next year, so let's give 'em hell.

The only scenario that appeals to me is that of the angry redneck with loaded guns who meets the karate champion at 30 paces.

Just blast them and let's get on with our lives.

So guys, tell me again how we're better off not playing in the SEC Championship game. Looks to me like we either win that and play for a national title or lose and play Michigan in the Capital One Bowl. Either looks pretty attractive compared to Hawaii.

Richt hasn't forgotten West Virginia. Up until then, Georgia has had a long tradition of being the one to tell an up-and-coming program they're not so great. I think we resume that tradition Jan 1. Then we reinforce it next year against Central Michigan and Arizona State. I remember the year BYU thought they had the best team ever ever ever until they played their only real opponent (ironically Hawaii) and were drilled.

Hawaii will score a lot of points but I'm not afraid to take Stafford and Moreno into a shootout. I hope the coaches aren't either. Hawaii is going to playing for everyhting. They have an outside chance at getting #1 in the AP with a win over Georgia as they'll then be undefeated with a quality win.

I know a lot of folks are disappointed that we don't get our opportunity to be the next team to wax the floor with OSU, but I think that we should be happy with our bowl game. Outside of the national championship game, name a better match up? Would you rather be Oklahoma playing a 2 loss team that was held to one TD by hapless Pitt? Would you rather by USC and playing a 3-loss team that isn't even in the top 10? Would you rather be VaTech and playing Kansas, at best the 3rd best team in the 3rd best conference? UGA gets to play a top 10 team that happens to be the last undefeated team with the longest winning streak in the nation. If UGA uses this whole "BCS Sham" as motivation, this game will be symbolic as a passing of the torch from the team that formerly had the nation's longest winning streak to the team that will go on to have the nation's longest winning streak on the way to a national championship next year.

We need to start getting excited about this game. I mean come on, we are in the Sugar Bowl. In a year where we are completely rebuilding. We should be amped up. Lets face it, we didn't play good enough football in Knoxville to deserve the NC game so lets get over it and go beat Hawaii. All this talk on the boards about "boycotting" and how we don't want to be there ect ect. Let me ask you something, How can you expect 19 year old kids to take a game seriously when 90,000 fans are telling them it's not.

Anonymous said...

And another thing: for added motivation next year, UGA needs to post the opposing coach's votes in the locker room. Here's motivation for next year's game @ Auburn:

Tommy Tuberville, Auburn

1. LSU

2. Oklahoma

3. Ohio State

4. Hawaii

5. Georgia

According the Wingnut, his team would have gotten smoked by the Rainbow Brights by even more than Dawgs smacked them around...

this stinks. i was hoping the black thing would happen every two yrs or so but its not gonna be near as special this time and will continue not to be if we do this 2 times each year. if i can go im gonna wear black because coach richt wants me 2 but i wish we werent doing it.

OMG! Please don't freakin' Eeyore-out me! Seriously, there are some sorry-@$$ Dog fans out there.
"Boo-hoo-hoo! We didn't get our way and so we should just pout about it". "It would have been better to have played in the SECCG, lost and have to play Michigan in the Cap One Bowl", are you kidding me? "We shouldn't wear the black". Whine, whine, whine...

Look, we blew it against South Carolina & Tenn- case closed.
They aren't wearing the black for you, they are wearing for the seniors and a team that got up off their @$$ and started kicking other people's butts.

If you don't like playing Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl and you don't want to support this team by wearing black, you can give me your tickets and you can become a Tech fan, because that's what you freakin' sound like.

Let's show some respect to the Dogs and not act like a bunch of whiny b!tch3s.

For what its worth tickets for the Sugar Bowl are already sold out. The Orange bowl in comparison still has tickets, and the Rose Bowl apparently doesn't believe in the whole using the internet to purchase tickets. I guess thats another one of those great traditions they pride themselves on.

I agree Jason. Let's get fired up about this one DAWG NATION!!! It's the Sugar Bowl against a 12-0 team! I just made my hotel reservations and will be there in the dome making some noise for our Dawgs. Let's show Hawaii how the Georgia Bulldogs do things in Athens!

With OSU and LSU in the MNC Game and the other bowl tie-ins, what team would a better opponent than Hawaii? ASU? Kansas? Mizzou? Illinois?

Speaking of Mizzou and ASU, they have much more of a reason to complain about Hawaii being the Sugar...

jasonc, I cannot be certain that you are referring to my Michigan statement, but since I'm the only one who mentioned the Capital One Bowl, I assume that you are. The reason to use quotation marks is to quote what someone actually said. When you make up your own stuff and put it in quotation marks because it looks similar to something else you read, you run the risk of misinterpreting.

I was very careful and never said "better." That's something your own little brain inserted in there. Given a national championship or bust scenario playing in the SEC Championship game would've given UGA, I'd rather them have gone, tried and failed than not not gone at all. Especially since the "bust" is only a minor step down (but a definitive step down) from where they are now. Ideally, I think UGA could've beaten LSU, especially when LSU didn't have their starting QB. Risking the loss would've been very much worth it.

There were a lot of people (many of them Georgia fans) who thought that UGA was better off not playing in the SEC Championship Game and taking an all-but-guaranteed BCS Bowl slot over playing big bad LSU in the SEC Championship. I thought it was a crap argument then and I look to be more than a bit vindicated on that point since the win wouldn't have just put UGA in the Sugar either way like everyone thought. It would've elevated UGA to the big game.

Hawaii's schedule is a complete joke. 117th of 119 teams. The only BCS conference school they even played was 4-9 Washington and they needed a last minute TD at home to beat them. Charleston Southern and Northern Colorado were two of the fine opponents on their schedule.

We're going to kill those clowns.
