Where to send the Fruit Basket

There's a monkey flying out of my ass right now because Pitt beat WVU. I said earlier that I'd send a fruit basket to Dave Wannstedt if he'd beat Pitt.

The address is:
    Petersen Events Center
    3719 Terrace St.
    Pittsburgh, PA 15261
I'll buy the fruit basket after the OU game. Regardless of what happens with this awesome OU/Mizzou game...I'm sending the fruit.

UGA is going to get screwed in the BCS. Herbstreit keeps saying he thinks LSU should jump us. That would leave the sugar with the first choice. That means UGA vs Hawaii, if they win later. That would SUCK!

Anonymous said...

Lou Holtz, Mark May, etc. (God I HATE them!) already pimping LSU and badmouthing UGA.

The cynic in me says we're gettin' screwed

We would beat tOSU

Anonymous said...

yeah, we would beat OSU. and I really want us to go to the title, but think about if we were in LSU's place...same win/loss record and we won the SECCG. (and for good measure, we were undefeated in regulation...ha).
nevertheless, i hate them, and I hope we go to the title game and prove all that is wrong with the BCS.

Voters just need to ask themselves this; who would have won if UGA had been in the SEC Championship?

Also, why the heck does Ohio St. get a free pass?

Why not LSU vs. UGA for all the marbles in New Orleans?

I am for the mustache's fruit basket.

But, if we get screwed I want to Fed-Ex some turd sandwiches to Lou Holtz and Mark May (www.dogdoo.com).

Very interesting to see the ESPN spin machine already deciding the Championship game(LSU vs. tOSU) before the BCS poll is released.

It sucks that we blew it against South Carolina & Tenn, because there is no doubt that we would have beaten either of those teams in the GA Dome today- especially a Dorsey-less LSU.

Wrt to the fruitbasket: candlesicks are aways a nice gift.

Re: whether we will take it in the neck from everyone who buys ink by the barrel and electons in large lots. Yes, most definetly. It's what they are all saying. LSU over Georgia, except for Chris Spielman who has an ilicit passion for Colt Brennan>

it would be a far fall from grace to be playing hawaii. lets hope they lose to washington at least.

I'm happy to help with the basket. =)

Go Dawgs!!

LSU will jump us. Everyone wants us too. Miles has been bitching about it. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Everyone wants to screw UGA. Might as well bend over and break out the vasolene.

LSU can suck it. They have lost 2 games since we last lost. They are in no way the best. Ohio State can suck it. They haven't played anybody.

CMR is about to start the lobbying on ESPN. Probably too little too late...

The LSU beat Tenn whpo beta UGA argument doesn't hold to me because UGA beat UK who beat LSU.

OU made the NCG a few years back without going to the Big 12 championship, so its not unprecendented or against the BCS rules for a non-conference winner to go. There's a reason the BCS powers haven't elected to change that rule and this is why. UGA is playing the best football in America today, they've won 6 straight and LSU has lost 2 of their last 7.

I'm trying not to get too excited. I know that we are going to get completely screwed on this, but dammit it is nice to think about right now. I hate OSU and would love to kick them in the teeth for the National Championship.

Regardless of how this plays out...........GO DAWGS!!!!!

i mean, we did it to ourselves back against tenn and sc, but the whole thing is still making me sick to my stomach.

that said, I just listened to CMR basically begging the pollsters on espn...and he did a good job, i think. he made valid points. i think the best point was when he said that "when we became ranked #4, people knew we weren't going to win the SECCG, but they still put us there, so why should that change?"

Anonymous said...

Get us an address to send thank you gifts to Oklahoma, also!

LSU lost 2 SEC games and got into the SECCG. UGA lost 2 SEC games and missed out by a tie-breaker. Seems like LSU was fortunate and UGA was less so. Yes, LSU won the SEC - congrats. But UGA wasn't given the opportunity despite a similar resume as LSU. Since the 2 teams didn't play each other and they esentially have the same record, I don't think LSU should be given extra consideration for winning a game UGA wasn't fortunate enough to play in.

On top of that, its hard to argue that UGA isn't playing better than LSU right now.

The shit is going to hit the fan tomorrow for sure. No matter who you are. Herbstreit thinks he's the ambassador of college football but he knows about as much as the rest of us. There are a lot more voters than just the douche bags that work at ESPN.

Anonymous said...

You guys are right. ESPN seems to lobbying for LSU. It makes me sick. Are they stupid or something? LSU won today, but they are really beat up. I think it would be lack luster game if they got into the Championship. All Dawgs know that if we would have been in the SEC championship game today, we would have hammered LSU and there would be no doubt who deserves to go.

Anonymous said...

Damn. I said I'd go to Pittsburgh and wash Wandstett's car if Pitt won tonight. I hate to say I'm amending my stupid promise. If we make the MNC I will drive to Pitt and wash his car when I get the funds to do so. I thought this would get us in but apparently ESPN has already decided that we don't deserve it.

Smitty said...

Yeah like the LSU win today was something spectacular to jump to number 2. Only 4 teams have lost the number 1 spot twice in the same regular season, yep LSU is one of them. Only one in the last 17 years too.

Anonymous said...

I agree with CMR in his argumnet about the voters having had a reason for voting UGA 4th last week, even though they knew they wouldn't win the SEC. The voted them higher than LSU knowing LSU would be favored to win against UT by about a touchdown. That's exactly what LSU did, so they didn't exceed any expectations. Therefore, how do the rankings change?

Hunker Down said...

So, if LSU leap-frogs us, does the Rose or Sugar get to pick first. And, is there any contractual requirement for an SEC at-large team to be in the Sugar when the MNC is in the Super Dome?

Anonymous said...

Man, Listening to Les Miles politic as to why LSU should make it into the Championship game would really change the BCS. What if we only focused on regulation play and Conference Championships. Sorry USC, I guess that means your out as well.

Russell said...

Herbstreit's flip flopping irked me. So I called ESPN and voiced my opinion in a respectful way. I'm OK with anyone changing their opinion but not without an explanation. We were good enough for the title game last week but not now?

I encourage everyone else to give ESPN a call and ask Herbstreit to back up his sudden change of opinion.

The Rose would pick their Conference tie-in replacement first, since their tie-in is ranked #1 (OSU)....if LSU is ranked #2, then the Sugar would need to permit the Rose to chose us.

From the BCS Selection Site....

2. Unless they qualify to play in the NCG, the champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games:

Atlantic Coast Conference-Orange Bowl
Big Ten Conference-Rose Bowl
Big 12 Conference-Fiesta Bowl
Pac-10 Conference-Rose Bowl
Southeastern Conference-Sugar Bowl

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following:

A. A team in the NCG;
B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;
C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.

Explain to me why LSU deserves to jump us, and USC doesn't? USC is playing better, they won their conference, and their one loss came when half their team was injured.

If I'm a Kansas fan, I'm even angrier than Georgia -- I lost ONCE and didn't win my conference. And Georgia could go ahead of me? (Yes, their schedule sucks, but any other year they go to the MNC).

What if the conference champ fetishists split their votes between Va Tech and LSU? Should we reshuffle and vote again, so the full force of their moral superiority can be brought to bear?

I just want someone to tell me what the "trump" argument is in this thing, because right now, it just looks like whoever the media wants to play should play.

hoodawg said...

Russell, while you're at it, tell him his Michigan/Les Miles sources say Georgia rulz.

Anonymous said...

LSU jumps us because all things being equal (both teams from the SEC w/ 2 losses each), they are the Conference champs and we are not....like it or not, that is the trump....if the situation were reversed, I would certainly think that GA should go ahead of LSU if the Dawgs won the Conference title

I think a comparison of teams that beat both LSU and UGA should be examined. Arky and UK beats LSU.

UT and USC beats UGA.

UT beats Arky, UK and USC.

LSU beats UT and USC.

UGA beats UK.

Aw hell nevermind thats going nowhere. I thought that argument would benefit you dawgs but it appears it may benefit LSU.

Anyway I hate LSU.

Unknown said...

Unfortunately, the real trump is that they now have a better record. 11-2 is better than 10-2 no matter how you slice it. And last I checked VA Tech and LSU are the only two teams with that high a winning percentage that matter since Ohio State is now a lock. LSU beat VA Tech so LSU will probably be the #2. The best we can do at this point is pray Washington keeps up their crap kicking of Hawaii and prepare for another #3 finish.

I'm thinking there should be more outrage about Ohio State cruising through a WEAK Little 10 (+1) and backing in because everyone in front of them lost.

That's part of it that I don't understand...

Jason said...

No way Georgia goes to the Rose now.

Oh well, it was a nice dream while it lasted.

Now I hope and pray for a #2 slotting tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

Anonymous said...

Call it sour grapes if necessary, but was anyone else pissed with Herbie handing LSU the shot at the NCG after that BS with Les Miles and Michigan this morning? That guy's integrity is in question with me right now...

Anonymous said...

Anyone else think the Pelini/Miles rumors could hurt them with voters?

Hobnail_Boot said...

If it was just LSU and UGA some of you would have a point. However it's LSU, USC, Oklahoma, VT, and Kansas all fighting for Georgia's spot.

We are #2 and they can all kiss our collective ass. Bring on the Buckeyes.

Andrew said...

I'm right there with you, hobnail. I think it would threaten the integrity (what's left of it) of the BCS system for the #7 team to jump to #2 simply for satisfying an ESPN-written criterion that has never been required or even looked at for determining who plays in the title game: whether that team has won a conference championship or not. If I weren't a Georgia fan angry with this situation, I'd be a VA Tech fan angry with it: why does LSU's conference championship all of a sudden carry the weight needed to give them the credentials to jump a team above them that also won their conference? It seems to shatter the entire system to give #7 a five-spot boost for a made-up "conference champion" contingency.

Chicago,

Thanks for the clarification. I was pulling hard for a Hawaii loss last night but that didn't help. Could be because I fell asleep on the Huskies. Since it is so screwed up this year, why not send Hawaii to play OSU - like anyone would care - and let the great teams actually play other great teams. (UGA-USC in the Rose.) But then again, that could lead to interesting football games around New Years and we haven't had any of that for nearly a decade now. Good system.

Can you imagine the challenge some PR outfit will have trying to spin an interesting angle on a UGA-Hawaii matchup. I LOVE New Orleans but I am not sure I would spend my money on that. Any other BCS Bowl matchup for the Dawgs and I am absolutely going to be there. But, I am really turned off by the Hawaii prospect.

Can anyone offer me any solace? Anyone one in addition to Hobnail Boot? I like his take, so it will have to be my hope against hope for the next 10 hours.

Anonymous said...

I agree we're not going to the big game, but boy I sure wanted to go to the Rose...

ChicagoDawg is correct. The Rose Bowl will have to get the Sugar Bowl's permission to pick us... so it won't happen. Grrr...

Here's the irony about the fruit basket thing... if Pitt had NOT beaten WVU, we would have a better shot at going to the Rose Bowl (they would not have to ask Sugar Bowl's permission to select us, because LSU would be playing in the Sugar.)

Hmmm... maybe we should hold off on the fruit basket after all.
