Epic Dawgs vs. Tech Baseball Game at Turner Field Tonight

The yearly UGA vs. Georgia Tech baseball game at Turner Field is one of my favorite late spring sporting events. This year, both Tech and the Dawgs (#7 ranked) come in with tremendous momentum. In fact, Georgia arguably has a Top 8 seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament at play during this one.

Come out Tuesday (7:05 pm) to see the SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs take on the Nerds. They typically serve beer at this one and I think that all the proceeds (Tickets and Concessions) go to support Children's Hospital of Atlanta.

We're sitting on the edge right now, but after the weekends Stanford and UC Irvine had I like our chances a lot better. Our RPI could stand to be a little higher, but it is hard to argue with what we did against the league this year.

I think if we beat Tech and don't lose the Alabama series we're close to a lock for a national seed. I think if we lose to Tech, we might have to sweat it a bit. In our nonconference series against teams that matter, we've lost 2 of 3 to Arizona and Oregon State, split with a solid FSU team (who will be a #3-4 national seed) and swept a bad Clemson team 2-0. Getting swept by GT (and in the embarassing way it happened) certainly wouldn't help any to make our case against the other teams in contention.

At this point, it looks like we're competing over the last weekend and through the conference tournaments against Texas A&M, Cal State-Fullerton and to a lesser extent California and Oklahoma State. If I had to guess right now, UGA and Texas A&M are the 7/8 seeds (not sure in which order), so we just need to hold serve against everybody else.

If we don't get a national seed we probably get sent to Tallahassee for the super.
