SEC Champs

With a gutty comeback win Saturday and an offensive explosion Sunday, the Dawgs took two of three from Vanderbilt this weekend. The series win clinched the third conference crown for the Diamond Dawgs since 2001. After the difficult nonconference schedule to begin the season, the team has been consistently solid with steady starting pitching, clutch hitting, and an unhittable closer.

I think the SEC championship pretty well guarantees an NCAA regional in Athens, but there's still more to get. Four games remain: Georgia Tech at Turner Field on Tuesday and the last SEC regular season series against Alabama in Athens this weekend. The team can't totally let up. They're still fighting for a national seed that would let them host a super regional.

2008 is shaping up to be a pretty good year for the athletic department.

The Dawgs have an SEC championship in baseball, basketball, and gymnastics.

PWD...
Have we won any other championships this year?

BTW...I know the gymnastics team won the NCAA title.

Also, the equestrian team won the NCAA title.

After doing the research I should have already done before that last post, I saw where the women's tennis team had won the SEC title, too.

Pretty good year so far.
