By the Way, There's a Game Saturday

I'm sorry to interrupt the boo-hoos, second guessing, and cannibalism we've been mired in since Saturday, but there's a game Saturday. It's just Kentucky, right? Well, yeah, but the 'Cats are 6-3, with losses to UF, Bama, and the Cocks.

They don't have a shameful loss (except they gave up 63 in one of those losses), but they don't have a good win either. Their early schedule came direct from the Hostess cupcake factory. Their conference triumphs were both one point wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State. None of UK's wins came against a team that will be bowling. So, the Dawgs should win.

The trouble with UK is that there is just enough to make me think we will revert back to the frustrating, plodding team we saw against UT, Arizona State, and Vanderbilt. A game where we are clearly better, but that differential doesn't translate to the scoreboard.

Here are a few items of concern. First, Kentucky has a solid defense. Their veteran defensive line is closer to LSU, Tennessee, or South Carolina in that they have some talented guys up front that can give us troubles in pass protection. Consider that they are second in the SEC in sacks per game, averaging almost three a game. Plus, their defensive backs are adequate. UK is in the middle of the pack on almost all team defensive stats except passing defense. That's because they can apply pressure up front and their corners and safeties don't have to be perfect.

Second, the Wildcats have a good red zone defense. UK opponents have failed to score any points in six of twenty trips inside the twenty. That's good enough to get them in the top 15 nationally in red zone defense. A good red zone defense added to our normal woes means you won't see the Dawgs take out your frustration with a severe pummeling Saturday. The Dawgs will get a win, but not in the fashion needed to soothe the pain.

They do have a decent D, but without Lyons, their offense is pretty vanilla. Hopefully, our D will take advantage of that and bounce back.

Man. I can't remember the last time that Dawg Nation was so apathetic towards a game. There's no enthusiasm for this game. None. Sad times...

That's very true and a 30-14 win won't make anyone feel much better.

PWD,

Do you still have that picture you posted last year of Stafford's face after the 06 UK game? Maybe that will get everyone's attention a little bit.

The picture was on the front of the ABH sports page yesterday.

Thats what happens when you get your ass kicked, not once but twice in one season.

God, that photo says it all doesn't it? I'm struggling to get up for this one, couldn't even find much trash to talk. Hope the team is more motivated than this fan.
