Ok State announces UGA ticket allotment

The Cowboys will offer 5000 tickets to Georgia fans via the official
UGA Athletic Department.
Source:
http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/article.aspx?subj

I think this is roughly what we gave them in '07.

There will be no single game tickets for sale. Season tickets start at
almost 500 bucks

They learned their lesson from asu.

Hey Paul,

Any chance of an article detailing travel details to Stillwater, and can't miss places like you had for the ASU game? There seems to be two airports about the same distance away from Stillwater and I'm not sure which would be best. Plus setting up a UGA meeting place like the Gordon Birsch (sp?) would be great too. Not trying to dump all the work on you, just trying to see if you had anything in the pipeline.

I do not have experience with their airports, but as far as location, OKC's is on the opposite side of town from Stillwater. It probably would not matter, as even though OKC is about twice as large as Tulsa, getting around is easy in both places--low traffic and lots of easy-to-follow highways.

Entertainment-wise, OKC has more to offer than Tulsa does, and beware that Stillwater is a dump, a speck of a town with, perhaps, one, maybe two student bars and little else to speak of. Don't plan on doing much of anything there. It's isolated, too; there's nothing around in any direction until you get to Tulsa or OKC.

It ain't no Starkville, that's for sure.

(having said that, Ames, Iowa is the Starkville of the Big XII)

While I wouldn't have missed Arizona State for the world, this one does nothing for. I'll bet I'm not the only one.

Playing OK STATE is a much better opponent than the ASU game was. Folks have been hammering our schedule for years, and we already have folks crapping on a nice road trip. Wow..

All the while, as anyone seen FU's OOC schedule? Talk about TOUGH...LOL

Anyone who is able to make the trip probably should go. This will be the first game played in the Cowboys' brand new stadium, which from the looks of all the virtual tours is going to be magnificent.

Not to mention this should be a tougher game than ASU was.

What does this mean?

If someone can explain I would greatly appreciate it. What happened with ASU?

We had 15-20k fans at the ASU game. OSU doesn't want that many opposing fans in their stadium.

Muckbeast - Dude.

BTW - I grew up - at least part of the time - in Oklahoma. No need to go there early or stay late after the game. Just fly in and out in the same day if you can.

When I was checking flight prices OKC was much much cheaper than Tulsa.

I've never been to OKC, but I've been to Tulsa. It's a boring dump.

I think the differences between this trip and Arizona are pretty wide. First, the quality of the opponent is really a non-starter. The Dawgs are playing, so from the significance-of-the-game standpoint, it's a total wash. That said, ASU is a much "sexier" opponent than Ok St would ever be regardless of their current relative qualities as teams. I'm just sayin'.

The difference is Phoenix vs. Oklahoma City. Frankly, there's no comparison. We went for a week, stayed at Camelback Inn and took a camping trip to the Grand Canyon. What the hell will I do in Stillwater and OKC? Drink at their new nightlife district?

At best I'll use this as a chance to see uncles and cousins in DFW and roadtrip from there. At best.

Still, I plan to go.

Justin, if you think Tulsa's a dump, wait 'til you see Stillwater.

The real thing to do, people, is to stay in Kansas City or Dallas and drive to Stillwater and back. But if you have to make a choice, and I live out this way so I've got first-hand knowledge, I would take OKC hands down over Tulsa.

You'll be amazed people actually live there and claim to like it.

What happened at ASU? Well, for starters we did have around 25k dawg fans run into Tempe like a bull in a China shop.

We drank the entire town out of liquor and beer (minus a couple of small bars who had their own micro-brews), violated all of the tailgating rules and laws they set up, flabbergasted all of their fans by doing all of this prior to game day.

We also bought up a ton (and I mean a ton) of their season tickets and single game tickets, causing much discomfort for ASU fans the rest of the season.

OK ST, doesn't want that.

OK State is flattering themselves by thinking the situation comparable. Tempe is a bowl-game site, a vacation destination, and was a huge game at the time. I don't think there will be quite the same rush to tail and gate in red carpet country.

Anybody know if Greg Reid is leaning towards picking UGA?

That's just false.

Arizona State wasn't even ranked by the time Georgia showed up. Oklahoma State will be a top 10 team from the 2nd best conference in CFB.

The outcome of the ASU game was not even in doubt by kickoff of that game. Georgia will be a 4-7 point underdog going into the OKST game.

If it's an afternoon game, I'm staying in Dallas. A 4 hour drive after a night game would suck though. OKC if we draw a night slot.

Dude.

Tempe > Stillwater. Obviously.

But as for the game, the ASU game was NOT a "big game" by gametime. A team that some of us were saying all off-season would pose no match for Georgia had already shown that was the case before we even showed up... by losing to fonking UNLV. At home.

Oklahoma State may end up sucking next year... but that will be far from evident going into the first game of the year.

This is a road game against what should be a top 10 team and likely the B12's #3 team in '09. Huge, huge difference in '08 Arizona State.

Labor Day weekend in Stillwater. No thanks.

"That said, ASU is a much 'sexier' opponent than Ok St..."

Maybe he was referring to the student bodies of the respective schools. T. Boone should allocate some funds to attract some better talent in that regard.

OSU seems to have pretty good fan support. It is the only game in town.

Eskimo Joe's is the most famous place in Stillwater.

Not much of a place to go visit (and I seriously considered going to graduate school there).

ESPN/ABC brokered the UGA v Okie State series. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that this game is on ABC at night similar to Bama v Clemson last year. Maybe a night game on ESPN, but very likely not a day game.

Unfortunately, I live in Oklahoma right now (leaving in 3 weeks, thank the Lord!) so I have some experience in the area.

The airport is now served on Delta/Northwest directly from Atlanta (a couple flights per day), or you can usually make a stop in Memphis or Dallas.

Bricktown is the OKC entertainment district (on the South-Southeast side of the city). They have a pretty good bar scene (nothing like Athens, but what else compares!) They have a bunch of good restaurants in the area (Toby Keith has his there...very good!). There is decent shopping on the north end of town for those that want to hit up some of the usual places if you have nothing better to do.

I haven't been to Stillwater, so I can't say much, but I've heard its a craphole. Make it out to Norman (just a few mins south of OKC) for a great time/college bar scene or if you want to see the OU campus.

If you plan on visiting any other part of Oklahoma...don't. However, if you've ever seen the Travel Channel or Food Network's countdowns of top US hamburger places, you've probably heard of Meers. It's a place about an hour and 15 mins south of the airport called Meers, in Meers, OK. They have the famous 1 lb Seismic MeersBurger, which I can personally attest is a gigantic meal. Add on a few Meers Gold beers and the amazing peach cobbler, and you will be full for quite a while.

Word to the wise, however, if you drive out here:

BRING YOUR OWN BEER!

The domestic beer they sell in Oklahoma is the watered-down 3.2% stuff and tastes like piss. If you fly, well you'll just have to deal or mooch off some fellow Dawgs for their good beer.

Gawd. Oklahoma...what a sh*thole. People make fun of New Jersey, but they ain't seen nothing yet.

I'll go anywhere to watch the dawgs play, and I've been to Starkville. That said, just having the chance to go to a stadium/area/campus I've never been to before is part of the fun. Tickets will be much harder to come by than the ASU game since OK ST is actually pretty good and plays in a good conference. You could buy ASU tickets on the street for about $10.

Toby Keith has a restaurant there!

I think I'll buy a bigger TV for the game instead.

I went to high school at Choctaw High School just outside Oklahoma City for a few years where I played football and basketball - Go CHS Jackets! On team trips I was fortunate enough to experience the various hot spots and interesting locales that Oklahoma has to offer. I can say based on that experience that there really is no reason to go to Oklahoma except to get somewhere else. It is truly a fly-over state. If you've driven I-16 from Macon to Savannah, then you've done everything there is to do in Oklahoma. You will gain nothing from this trip - other than watching the DAWGS play football. Perhaps that should be enough. It's not that there is anything particularly horrible about Oklahoma, it's just that it has very little to offer to a visitor. I think I'll save my money for the next time we play in the Hula Bowl.

Not wanting to scare you folks....

But the Thursday night rumors for this game are flying in Athens right now.

Y'all still gonna go?

BCS-Sucks: You're wrong. Ok St is the JV of the Big 12. Arizona State is at least a sleeping giant in the Pac 10. You're buying a lot of hype about OSU's offense and what T. Boone's getting for his money. All in all, it ain't much.

How'd they do against Texas Tech, Texas and Oklahoma? 0-3. What was their best win in '08? Mizzou? Colorado? That's hardly as anticipated as what we expected going into '08 with Arizona State.

Yeah, OSU can score points, etc. And I remember they were a big deal when they came 'tween the hedges in '07. They left looking like what they are: the JV of the Big 12.

Sorry, friend, but everyone went to Tempe. And nobody really cared that they'd done us no favors by dropping the UNLV game the week before. I'm not saying the '09 opener won't be entertaining, just that we've all seen this hype before and OSU has never ever ever lived up to it.

Don't let them talk you out of going to Stillwater. It will be a great game and a great atmosphere, opening night of the stadium expansion. The Dawgs will be starting a new QB and tailback and can use all the support we can give.

Oklahoma State is an A&M school, like Auburn. The town is similar but has a much better selection of watering holes. Just about everything is within walking distance.

You know how Georgia fans like to take over a place.

Try the three bars on the east side of campus, a couple blocks from the stadium:

Eskimo Joe's,
Stonewall Tavern,
or Stables

Or try the Strip, Washington St. just north of 4th Ave, approximately six blocks from the stadium:

The Copper Penny,
Dirty's Tavern,
J.R. Murphy's,
319,
Rooster's, or
Willie's Saloon

They also have one of the best university golf courses in the country, Karsten Creek. I understand greens fees are expensive, but the course is top notch.

OK. I'll admit i am biased. I am an OSU alum just on this board checking to see what you dawgs are saying about the game. I was in Athens a few years ago for this game and had a great time. I've also been to several other college towns around the US and in SEC land. I've got to say that whoever said Stillwater is a crap hole is wrong.

There is a great atmosphere there and you'd be hard pressed to find a more genuinely friendly fan base anywhere.

As for the Moron who said go to Norman to go out...just don't do it. Who wants to go rub shoulders with a bunch of gooner fans. If you plan on coming out...stay in Oklahoma City or Tulsa (rooms in stillwater are hard to find...maybe a few to be had if you got one now)...you'll have a great time in stillwater....i promise.
