Kwame Geathers Signs with UGA

According to DawgPost.com's headline, the Bulldogs picked up a huge commitment this afternoon as Kwame Geathers inked his letter of intent (premium article) to play football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Geathers will start his playing career at defensive tackle for the Dawgs. Geathers is a space eater at 6'5" and 320 pounds with good strength and quickness.

He's listed as a 3 star offensive tackle by Rivals.com, but he's listed as a four star defensive tackle by Scout.com. If he's like his brothers and uncle, you can expect him to carry a tremendous amount of muscle on that frame. Maybe he'll bring his Uncle Jumpy's forklift to Athens.

Geathers adds much needed beef at the defensive tackle position because UGA hadn't seem to recruit enough high school defensive tackles in the past three recruiting classes (# of DTs per class).
2009 - 3 (including Geathers)
2008 - 1
2007 - 0 (1 JUCO who has now graduated)
2006 - 3 (two haven't contributed yet)

DTs who will be on scholarship for 2010 include:
Jr - 1
So - 1 (two from '09 class will likely redshirt)
RFr - 2
Sr - 2 (non-factors to date)

DT recruiting for the upcoming 2010 class is still an urgent area of need. However, it's not nearly as scary as it would've been without Geathers.

Don't know how much you cover the combine here PWD (or whether it was already known).. but ESPN is reporting that Stafford won't being throwing at the combine (ala Matt Ryan). He'll still be there for the running and interviews.

Will Kwame qualify? I've heard there are some grade issues. Anyone know?

I heard the reason we waited to offer was to find out his scores from a January test. If he got the score, he would get the UGA offer, from I what I have seen, so that bodes well for him qualifying. Hopefully everything is in line for Kwme to be headed to Athens sooner rather than later. Now lets hope Orson Charles has an awful time out in LA this weekend and gives us some more good news next week. Go Dawgs!

Wasn't Kiffin & Co. in the running for this dawg? I can't wait to hear the spin...

Haha what will it be now? Kwame's aunt wouldn't let him play for Tennessee?

So who starts at DT the next 3 years?:

2009 = Owens/Weston

2010 = Weston/Crawford/Whittaker

2011 - Crawford/Getahers/Whittaker

UGA's DTs,

To answer your questions.

Kade Weston signed in 2005. He's a senior this year. Crawford signed in 2006. He's a Redshirt JR this year.

So more like:

2009 - Owens, Atkins and Weston (All SRs)

2010 - Tyson, Abry Jones, Lott and Geathers as only likely contributors based on the prior production of Crawford and Brandon Wood.

2011 - Same guys plus the 2010 DT recruits in the mix.

Kiffin said Kwame really wanted to come to UT but Marlon Brown's grandmother wouldn't let him. He doesn't know what to do about that.

On other news, now those idiots at UT are offering to sophomores in Georgia, trying to upstage everybody and make all sorts of attention for themselves. What a freaking circus...indeed they will be SEC Public Enemy #1 in a lightning-bolt time. I cannot believe it's going to work, but it is certainly pathetically humorous.

I heard the same things about Kwame's grades. I think he might be heading to Juco. We really need him next year, so no big deal. It would be great to go ahead and get a year under his belt of SEC football, even though it would be in a reserver role this fall.

Also, when does Charles announce? I thought he was supposed to on Monday. Does anyone know?

Charles hasn't set a date for his announcement to my knowledge, just sometime after his visit to LA. He is a Dawg though, unless he gets offered the "Reggie Bush Recruitment Special", then all bets are off.

Is anyone watching the ole miss georgia game? Is it just me or is it really poor lighting in that arena? And their grey uni's are ugly.. But they'll probably beat us.. Which in the end is all that matters

Completely off subject here but, Paul, can you find out why, with our $20MM surplus, we can't afford a decent game tracker for baseball? Basketball too for that matter.

Thanks!
