Knowshon Answers Denver's Call

Knowshon Moreno (Image: Jim Hipple)

It's a great situation for Knowshon. A quality franchise that respects players with Knowshon's ability and approach to the game. The media aggressively covers the team, but they're not totally unforgiving like the NY or Philly press. In other words, he can keep them at arms length without ever giving much of a quote, and they won't hold as much of a grudge.

Without Cutler, they are going to build the entire offense around Moreno. The only downside for KM being a jersey number change because Champ Bailey already has #24.

The Broncos on the other hand had bigger problems than running back. It's a good pick, but they'll need to continue to draft more guys like Ayers, Smith and McBath and less back-up Tight Ends who only caught 12 passes in college to remake the franchise.

Elsewhere:
Massaquoi went #50 to the Cleveland Browns who took another WR earlier in the draft. I feel bad for Mo Mass. A team that's going no where picks two WRs in the first two rounds.

Open Thread for the rest of the Draft:
Feel free to comment on the Falcons or Dawgs on this post the rest of the day about the draft. I'm out BBQ'ing today.

Screw my Raiders from; they do a terrible draft yet again. I'm a Bronco fan for 2009. Champ, Boss and now Knowshon.

Another problem for KM is that his head coach is the Lane Kiffin of the NFL.

Denver is a great pro football town. Their games have a college football atmosphere, but the pressure can be there on coaches and players. I remember one Monday morning after the Broncos just quit in a blow-out home loss to their arch-rivals the Raiders, a local radio station (top 40, not sportstalk radio) played "Loser" by Beck over and over and promised to keep playing it until Wade Phillips was fired. They eventually relented after a few hours when it became apparent Bowlen wasn't going to fire Phillips immediately.

Falcons are making the right moves..picking up linemen, focusing on defense mostly.

We've also got Nic Clemons. I can't wait to get my Denver Knowshon jersey.

I think the Falcons drafted smart; hopefully they can boost that secondary which looked a little porous last year.

I'm angry that Brannon Southerland wasn't drafted. WTF? Mel Kiper and Mike Mayock had him as a top 3 FB, and anyone who watched him when he was healthy knows he's a beast. Maybe Atlanta will give him a free agent spot.

I wouldn't be so sure this is that great of a situation to be in.

Denver has a new coach who may or may not be a total prick. Denver also signed other RB's who have experience and may give Moreno a hard time playing wise.

As for BS not being drafted...good, because he will make more money and have the option of picking who he wants to sign with as a Free Agent

Denver is going to be all kinds of terrible next year. The way their schedule is set up, they'll probably start 3-0 and then lose their next 8, at least. There's no way they finish better than 5-11, and that's if they get lucky and win a game they shouldn't.

It's good news for Knowshon in that it's been a franchise that has relied heavily on running backs, including Terrell Davis, of course. But it's bad news in that it's a franchise that considers running backs to be disposable. If they use them up, they just go out and get more. And they've already signed a bunch in free agency.

Of course, they also put SEVEN running backs on injured reserve last year.

There's also been no evidence that Josh McDaniels has any earthly idea what the hell he's doing, and his trading a 2010 first-round pick to Seattle to draft a cornerback in the second round is evidence of that. (He still has Chicago's first-round pick, but he should have made the deal conditional so that Seattle would get the worse of the two. Denver's is likely to be a top-10, at least.)

Oh, and he's hitching his wagon to Kyle Orton.

There's also been no evidence that Josh McDaniels has any earthly idea what the hell he's doing, and his trading a 2010 first-round pick to Seattle to draft a cornerback in the second round is evidence of that. They had Smith targeted early and were willing to go get him to help what was a woeful secondary last year. They still have a 1st-rounder next year, and Smith will likely be starting by 2010. Great move by Denver.

Oh, and he's hitching his wagon to Kyle Orton. He hasn't named a starter yet, and whoever it is will benefit greatly from the Moreno pick.

When you say BBQ'ing are you properly using the term (low and slow, smoked meats) or are you a transplant and mean you are simply GRILLING?
