Football Schedule: UGA vs. New Mexico State in 2011

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Georgia has added New Mexico State to its 2011 schedule. The NMSU game will be played on Nov. 5th. This will fall between the Florida and Auburn games on the schedule.

The home games for 2011 include:
    Louisville
    South Carolina
    Coastal Carolina
    Mississippi State
    New Mexico State
    Auburn
    Kentucky
By timing this one between UF and AU, the lone bye week for the 2011 season will likely fall just before the UT game. SicemDawgs.com projects that the SEC will place Mississippi State vs. UGA on the weekend before the Cocktail Party. I'm not sure how he knows that, but it certainly looks right to me.

I would love to see the useless Louisville (2011/2012) series scrapped in favor of something with more teeth and intrigue as 2011 is a year in which we don't face LSU or Bama in the regular season. We can handle it.

That is a terrible home schedule.

We should have never scheduled Coastal Carolina to begin with.

The Louisville series is just fine.

The Louisville series was scheduled in 2005? Maybe 2006? It was looking like a great series back then. At this point, it may become a liability. And the whole point of playing these OOC road games is to shut the doubters up.

Of course, if we drop the L'ville series, we will be criticized for doing that too. Hopefully they'll be a lot better by then.

Pathetic. there is no excuse for this type of non conference scheduling. If we want to take ourselves serious and contend for a title, then we need to play the big boys. Also, this is an insult to the ticket holders who really sacrifice for season tickets and get rewarded with these home games.

I agree that this is not a fun schedule for season ticket holders, but I disagree with saying we wont be taken seriously with this schedule. The Gaytors played Hawaii, The CITADEL, and Miami as their out of conference and they sure convinced everyone that they should be in the Natl Championship. They dominated their crappy schedule, so we just have to do the same.

I agree with anon 9:43 about the gators crappy schedule and how nobody seemed to care. However, I think in the eyes of the media we would get the same treatment Auburn got in 2004(?) where their schedule was a liability. Florida had the benefit of winning a national championship two years ago and also having Jesus in shoulder pads as their qb. Let's face it, the media picks and chooses when to use the weak schedule card and they never will with darlings like Florida, USC, or Notre Dame (if the Irish ever do anything)
I am in favor of scratching the Louisville series.

We dont have to play USC or Oklahoma every year. There is one thing and ONLY one thing holding us back from playing in the NC game and that is the Florida Gators. Until we find a way to beat them more than once every 5 years, we wont be playing in the NC game.

It all goes back to beating the Gators. We get by them, we will play for the cheese.

Just look at their p*ssy schedule this year and tell me they won't wind up in Pasadena. Course, we may have something to say about that in October.

Are you guys kidding me? All the complaining last year about such a “tough schedule”. I don't know what's going on inside your domes over this 2011 schedule. Look at Florida last year with homes games against Charleston Southern, Troy and Florida International!!! I'm sitting here with LSU fan, and he can not understand the Dawg nation complaining? In his words, "all you have to do is get by Florida and Vals".

By this time, Aaron Murray will be a three year starter, Washaun Ealey and Carlton Thomas will be running rampant behind a seasoned O-line. Not to forget Orson Charles and Marlon Brown, and our D can't be worse than last year.

So bring your hate and discontent; all I have to say is count me in baby. I'm not on the bandwagon, I'm driving it! “2011 National Champs”. GO DAWGS.

Strong schedule- weak schedule. Blah, blah, blah.

Just line up and beat the teams that came.

That's two cupcakes for 2011. 3 if you count Mississippi State.

Either we can beat FU or not...

It's really that simple. IF we had split with them since Richt had been in Athens, I would say that UGA has at least 1, maybe 2 BSBCS Champions to be gradulated for.

When you play in the SEC who gives a crap about the OOC games?

If we played Fla home and home, we wouldn't have to scramble for $hit home games w/no return trip.

HobnailBoot said...

This is better for New Mexico State than it is for us. We have nothing to gain here except a little criticism that we didn't beat them bad enough.

Uga VII in '08 - why don't you quote the AJC verbatim and plan your fantasy baseball team.

I can barely contain my excitement.

Coastal Carolina has a football team? Who knew?

Mississippi State may be a viable opponet by that time with their new head coach.

And since the Indoor Practice facility is linked to this article i will say my 2 cents about that. I mean seriously what a POS IDF Dallas had. It was basically a large tent. I think most colleges that have an IDF are nicer than that. I hope whenever we build one we dont build a tent like dallas did.

It's not a glamorous schedule, nor the most challenging, but hell, seven times that year you get to hear "it's Saturday afternoon in Athens!" over the Sanford Stadium loudspeaker. What can be better than that. Go Dawgs!

I see your points about the Louisville schedule, but i beg you please don't change it for the only simple and selfish fact that i live here in L'ville now and i can get an easy road ticket to see the Dawgs play.

Really NMS is about as good as you might get as far as getting an opponent to come to your home stadium 3 years away with no promise of return away game. So it doesn't really matter cause we weren't going to get much else. At least that's my humble opinion.

Please for the love of God do not change the 2010 game in Boulder!

If they're going to do anything, they should drop that Coastal Carolina game. Having a warm-up against a non-BCS, especially one from the WAC or MWC, is excusable.

If we drop Coastal, then we can have a home and home in 2010/2011 with a good team. Away in 10, Home in 11. That would significantly improve our 2011 home schedule and increase our SOS in years where we don't play Bama or LSU. Problem solved.

Tim Tucker has a post with an update from Gary Stokan. Looks like the ASC understands UGA's wish to not eliminate a home game and he even mentions that "We’d like to have Georgia when it makes sense for Georgia."

Look for Bobo to get Murray to throw at least 40 passes in this game. Murray needs to get his mojo back before the Auburn game next week and this is the game to do it in. Check out my sports blog in which I break down the game from a statistical stand point. Leave a comment if you would like.
