Dawgs Land Running Back

UGA landed its eighth commitment from the month of June today as Ken Malcome announced his intention to enroll at Georgia ($ premium). Malcome (6'0" and 212 lbs) is described as a power back ($) with scholarship offers from Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. If we are landing kids that UF, Bama and OU are chasing, that's all I need to know about the kid's "rating."

He is attends the same high school as T.J. Stripling (6'6" 210 lb. four star DE).

Though you can't officially Non binding commit till you're a Junior I believe.

I'm glad to see recruiting rolling.

Crane, what is a "binding" commit?

Crane said...

The only somewhat binding commit is signing day. Then it becomes a pain in the rear, paper work, for either side to change their mind.

Crane:

There is no such thing as a "Binding Commit" (see Dwayne Allen two years ago)

Nothing is binding until a kid signs a letter of intent on national signing day in February of his senior year (or until he enrolls in the school if he is a December grad).

Does anybody know where to view Malcome's video without paying?

I agree! I don't pay as much attention to the "stars" as I do who has offered them. This gives me some concern on a couple of our recruits, specifically Deon Rodgers. However, that being said, I trust CMR, RG, etc.

ESPN college football recruiting does a great job of rankings and updates and they have film for free.

Malcome is a Power Back but runs a 10.9 100m! That is smoking for a 210 lb guy. Sounds like a Dwyer/Jamal Lewis type.

Also nice to pull another kid from SW Dekalb. CMR and CRG have made great strides in metro Atlanta, and have really gotten back into the good graces of the coaches there who wanted to have nothing to do with UGA after the way they perceived Quincy's treatment.

Apparently the 13 year old kid is named Evan? BERRY and is Eric Berry's younger brother.

I heard the 13 year old kid is somehow related to Eric Berry, though I'm not sure if his commitment is binding or not.

Twilb,

I'm not worried about Deon Rodgers. We generally do ok when we offer a sleeper AFTER one of our camps.

It's when we offer a complete unknown BEFORE our camps that makes me nervous. That was Callaway's signature move. Ignore a blue chipper in state and sign a complete unknown without 4 working appendages ... or the future NCAA Record holder for penalty yards instead of a Pro Bowler.

We may have done that with Vassar last year. I think Coach JJ offered him before Jarvis Jones...and before the camp. That always worries me.

Not disparaging Vassar. Just saying it seems out of context.

So is little Berry going to play for Tennessee or for Coach Kiffin?

Smitty said...

Kiffin won't be there when that kid graduates HS.

Does this mean Buck Godfrey no longer thinks we're a "redneck" program?

MikeInValdosta said...

Not sure, but I think a school cannot offer until they are a jr. In any event, I believe committments to Lane are worth about as much as Lane's future.

"The Cuatro"
look at my 2nd post.

Got ya, but your first comment was retarded.

By the way, Eric other brother is about 6' already and is a Junior Olympic 200 meter sprint champ or something...

I was being ironical

almost as important as the fact he'll be playing for us is that he won't be playing against us. ;)

Who, pray tell, is the "NCAA Record holder for penalty yards"?

As for Jarvis Jones his jr year, saw him in person and these untrained eyes were not impressed. He had trouble stopping a good RB (signed with UAB).

Two of his teammates were very impressive, Jamar Fortson (FSU receiver), and QB (forget the name but a former Auburn signee and now QB at Memphis.

If Jones was really the best LB in state last year, it was a weak class. Measurables make a 4 or 5 star recruit, they do not alone make great football players.

I'm guessing that was directed to Dan Inman?

I hated the early Richt years approach to OL which was get a skinny tall kid and beef him up. It seems 2 yrs later they'd be out of football (Tommy Gainous and some Chandler kid come to mind).
