Georgia Tech Scheduling News
(Reuters) ATLANTA--It's official. The much-rumored twelfth game for NCAA football. The revenue-builder was announced by NCAA officials last month. Athletic directors from USC, Georgia, Oklahoma and others scurried to find attractive intersectional partners for home-and-home matchups. And one eager ACC school has already filled its dance card.
Georgia Tech wasted no time in pouncing on their 12th-game dream teams: Jacksonville State and a rematch with intimidating Samford.
"College football fans across the nation can get excited about bringing Jacksonville State to the Flats," said a jubilant Dave Braine, Georgia Tech athletic director. "They have one of the premier marching bands on the college scene today. We're talking about a Top Ten program, a team with a tradition of dominating football for decades, in Division III. This is an ESPN2 Thursday night natural."
Braine added, "GT versus Samford, our other grab, was a must. This matchup is quickly becoming one of the great rivalries of Southern football. This is 1A vs. 1AA, who's the better league, see what I mean? Come and find out, we have plenty of seats! And here, enjoy this hotdog. Courtesy the GTAA. Condiments not included; one to a customer, please."
"This is a great day for us," grinned Bob Freebey, chairman of Atlanta Municipal Charities. "Jacksonville State and Samford, well, that means tens of thousands of tickets available completely gratis, for area boy scouts, girl scouts, campfire girls, and whatayacall it, you know that Jerry Lewis disease? The stands will be a sea of scout green--with a tiny sprinkling of old gold, of course."
Braine was unavailable for comment when asked about rumors of an upcoming 10 year series with Villa Rica High School.
