Blog Aid and Katrina Sports Related Stories

Today is BlogAid. It's a relief / fundraising effort designed to help raise awareness and financial assistance across the blogosphere. Instapundit (one of the largest blogs on the internet) is coordinating it. Also, College Football Resource is helping organize bloggers like me into linking into the program.

Personally, I suggest the American Red Cross for giving (800-HELP-NOW). They have the largest number of people on the ground outside of FEMA and the State of Louisiana Government. The RedCross is working to provide 500,000 meals a day. They need more help financially to do so. To donate to the American RedCross click on the big Donate button below or call the number above.

While you're donating feel free to check out some of the links below to stories about how the sporting world is being impacted by the hurricane. I have to post sports b/c that's what this blog is about. If I start posting my thoughts on how the relief effort is being managed, this will turn into a political blog. Then, I'll end up on a 4 page rant. Football and donation links below.

FanBlogs.com found a story involving a possible move for the Sugar Bowl site. I'm thinking San Antonio makes sense b/c it's a cooler city for New Years than Houston.

The NCAA shows some common sense for once. They have loosen their rules for hurricane victims. The article gets into specifics here, but the biggest winner (for lack of a better term) is Tulane. It's extremely likely that Tulane won't have an academic semester in the Fall. These adjusted rules will allow Tulane to field athletic teams in the Fall without having players in classes. Under the old rules, even though there was no school the players in Fall Sports (Football, Soccer and Volleyball) would have essentially lost a year of eligibility. Kudos to the NCAA for showing good judgement.

To give you a sense of perspective on these rules...I *think* that the NCAA didn't adjust scholarship limits for Marshall when their entire football team died in a plane crash in the 1970s. The NCAA never bends so this is shocking and encouraging. (if I'm wrong on that someone correct me in the comments area)

Lastly, two articles about the Saints options for home games. One legit news source in New Orleans. And one of my pontifications on the topic.
