Kenny Rogers new Song "The Vol Fan"

As everyone knows by now, the Vols invited Kenny Rogers to sing at halftime of the UT vs. UGA game. All in attendance know that his mic kept cutting in and out during the performance. We here at the Georgia Sports Blog are excited to report that Kenny wrote a new variation of his classic hit "The Gambler" after the game. The new version is called "The Vol Fan".

The Vol Fan
On a warm fall evenin', watchin' a team bound for Shreveport,
I sat down by a Vol Fan; he was much to bummed to speak.
So we took turns a starin' cross the field to the beat down
'Til frustration overtook him, and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made this team out of helping coach 'cruitin'
And knowin' what kids want to hear by their long and outstretched palms.
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're poised for gloatin'.
For a taste of your donuts, I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my box, and he ate down my last glazed one.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And Neyland got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you're gonna be a Vol Fan, you gotta learn to do it right."

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count beatin' Georgia, when you're living as a Vol fan.
There'll be time enough for countin' when Richt retires.

Now ev'ry booster knows that the secret to recruitin'
Is knowin' who to throw away and knowing who to keep.
'Cause ev'ry kid's a felon and ev'ry Clausen's a loser,
And the best that we can hope for is to beat Vanderbilt."

So when he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the exit,
Crushed out his hopes and dreams and walked off away.
And somewhere in the darkness the Vol Fan, he cried softly.
But in his final words I heard, advice all Vols can keep.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count beatin' Georgia, when you're living as a Vol fan.
There'll be time enough for countin' when Richt retires.
