8-8.
Blah. The Falcons have been playing football since the 1960s, and they have yet to have back to back winning seasons. The world now waits until 2008 for the off chance that it might ever happen.
I'm not close enough to the Falcons -- nor fully on the bandwagon enough -- to give you a full frontal assault overview of their season.
But here's my two cents from my seat in view of the bandwagon. Either:
A) Mike Vick is an imbecile
B) Greg Knapp is an imbecile
or
C) Greg Knapp mistakenly thinks that Mike Vick is an imbecile which relates back to option B
I just don't understand how Mike could be in this season for this long and still not audible out of bad plays. I honestly don't remember watching Vick audible out of a play a single time this season. Granted, I'm not watching every moment with baited breath. But does it happen?
If you walk up to the line of scrimmage as a QB and see an 8 man front with two obviously blitzing LBs you call an audible, a hot route or adjust. Vick doesn't. Ever.
He either isn't allowed to audible or isn't capable of it. If he isn't capable of getting the Falcons out of a bad play, then he is playing the wrong position. If they don't let him, then he's coached by the wrong people.
In my humble and not so informed opinion, the Falcons need 3 things this off-season:
1. A new offensive coordinator. Greg Knapp has to go. I nominate Al Borges. If Borges can teach a watered down version of the West Coast offense to Jason Campbell's dumbass in one year, he can certainly teach Mike Vick.
2. Offensive linemen that can pass block. Alex Gibbs is the most overrated offensive line coach in America. Yes, he can teach C grade linemen to run block like hall of famers. But he either is incapable of evaluating talent or unable to teach schemes that enable/facilitate any sort of pass blocking.
3. Defensive speed and depth across the board in the draft. If I'm the Falcons, my draft has 2 OL, 2 DL, 1 CB and a safety. Demario Minter would make a great deal of sense for the birds in the second round at CB or Safety.
Two Stats of Interest:
Only four teams in the NFL passed the ball in 2005 for fewer yards than the Falcons. Only one of those 4 made the playoffs.
Falcons QBs were sacked 34 times this year. That's 15th most often in the NFL. Only 1 playoff team was sacked more often.
Defensively, they are mediocre at everything.

Yeah. I was at the game today. You could tell when the teams came out that Carolina was a hot knife and the falcons were butter. The thin kind too.
Gibbs sucks.
Your blog is the best site on the internet. Props.
As a Bucs fan, watching the Falcons continue their suckiness is quite enjoyable (something about red and black just ticks me off).
As for taking sacks, part of the problem seems to be that Vick holds the ball too much and he's at fault in a number of those sacks. He's very slow working through his reads and he doesn't have the quickest release in the world.
Honestly, I think you can win with Vick - but they need an offensive approach similar to what Pittsburgh uses. Punishing running game, and a vertical play-action passing attack. Vick has an absolute cannon and throws a decent deep ball, trying to turn him into the second coming of Steve Young is just retarded. Is Mora Jr. really Gailey Jr.?
