Football Scheduling with new 12 Game Season

The tricky thing with the NCAA's approval to move forward with a 12 game schedule is that they didn't give schools two off weeks. In the old model, you had 13 weeks to play 11 games. In the new model, you have 13 weeks to play 12 games.

The limited number of off weeks is causing some teams to scramble says Ivan Maisel over at ESPN. Several schools still have open slots for 2006. UGA is full for 2006, but still has a remaining slot for 2007.

Paul Finebaum's blog blasts several in the SEC for weak non-conference scheduling this year. Chief among them is Alabama who's non-conference slate is one of the worst I've seen. Georgia gets props from Finebaum for scheduling Colorado and Tech.

Note: Yes dad, Finebaum has a blog. You can read it while wearing your "I HEART Finebaum" Shirt.

Lest the ACC fans crow about their non-conference schedules, Maisel says that "the ACC schools took great pains to make the 12th game settle softly on the palate. Only four ACC schools play more than one nonconference game against a BCS conference school or Notre Dame." Georgia Tech is one of the four having scheduled UGA and Notre Dame next year.

Or as we like to call those games at the Georgia Sports Blog..."Two More Losses."
