Tech to Give Nix Bigger Role in Offense

I don't really get this. I still lurk on The Hive (although nothing like I used to). The last few weeks over there have left me scratching my head. The rumor had Gailey moving more play calling responsibilities to Patrick Nix. It's a rumor that the AJC quasi-confirmed on Saturday. Basically, Gailey says the scope of the enhanced role for Nix will be larger, but he doesn't say how much larger.

Anyway, the article specifically confirms that:
Nix's responsibilities have skewed more toward managing paperwork and running meetings than making key decisions about strategy and play selection. Gailey has called the plays for most of the game, with Nix taking over for the two-minute offense.
Sorry, but hasn't the two minute offense been one of the things that Tech fans have been most unhappy with the past two seasons? Off the top of my head:
UGA vs. GT 2004: Nix loses count of the downs and tells Reggie to spike the ball on 3rd Down.

GT vs. NCSU: Tech calls timeout at the goalline followed by an INT. Instead of running one play and then calling a timeout.

GT vs. UGA 2005: Under two minutes, GT attempts zero passes to Calvin Johnson. Game ends on INT towards Bilbo.
It seems like the close games that GT has won have been with GT's defense on the field at the end. Games like Miami 2005. The biggest exception being the Clemson game in 2004; although, I'm not sure what role Nix played in the snap going over Clemson's punter's head.

My point is...why are some Techies eager to let Nix have a broader role in play calling? It looks to me like that's a good thing for Georgia. If his work with Reggie Ball and the GT two minute offense is any indication, I hope they give him carte blanche and a pay raise.

BTW -- The Tech "fans" at the BuzzOff Message Board wrote a lullaby in response to Patrick Nix's possible involvement in play calling. It's a must read for comedy.
