Dawgs Abroad: Norway, Greece and England

Another reader sent in his experiences on the Dawg Fans Living Abroad:
I'm a 17 year old now living here in Athens, but I followed the Dawgs from abroad from 1997-2002 seasons. From the countries of Norway, England, and Greece, I would listen to Munson's broadcast of the dawgs through the 750 wsb website or from the broadcast on georgiadogs.com. In the '90s when the internet wasn't as developed, the connection would often cut out, leaving us with a typed play-by-play as our method of following the dawgs on Saturdays.

From the 2000-2002 seasons, I listened to every one of Munson's broadcasts, sometimes having to stay up until 3 am to wait for the 7:45 games on ESPN to kick off, and then would stay up through the night listening to the games. Although I am now able to attend all of the games between the hedges, there was something special about not being able to see the game and everything that took place.

Having to wait for Munson tell you what happened on a play was riveting and was what began my love for the dawgs. It also gave me the opportunity to hear many of his great sayings, something most fans who go to the game miss, such as his call of the tennessee game in '01 when we stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose.

Thanks for all that you do with the blog. - Will

Hah! I did that typed play by play when I was an intern at UGA in the SID office.

Glad to know someone was actually reading it.
