Joe Tereshinski went down and his shoulder went out.Three games into the 2001 Georgia Class A high school playoffs, just before halftime, the senior was lost.Kudos to Carter Strickland, who usually lays an egg in his articles, for a killer piece. The AJC also has a solid piece comparing Zeier's FR year to Stafford's. Seems like someone else said that would make a great article. lol.
"Everybody in the crowd knew it," said his brother, John Tereshinski. "He was with the trainers. He was talking with the coaches. You could see that he had dislocated his shoulder."
Then Joe Tereshinski walked out onto the field, got back behind center and started the second half.
"He did everything left-handed," John Tereshinski said. "He even passed left-handed. He finished out the game."
Joe Tereshinski never gave up. Still hasn't.
Stafford says all the right things in his article:
"Joe T obviously knew more than all of us. Been that way since I've been here," said Stafford, his head shaved, as is a Georgia tradition for true freshmen. "No question, he deserves the job. He played great during the fall. I'm sure he'll be a great leader for us."More on UGA's newest starting QB:

I covered that game in 2001.
Joe T dislocated his shoulder against Clinch County as the first half ended, and I was convinced he was done. A la Herschel, he popped it back in and Athens Academy got silly creative.
They ran a ton of shovel passes, only one or two left-handed passes and a bunch of halfback passes with Joe T going out to catch the ball. A few times they'd line a receiver up underneath center to snap and run the option with that guy.
It was like watching a Playstation game in real life.
He's a tough kid.
Here are the stories from that game ...

is anyone else starting to get a good feeling about out chances behind joe t????

I posted this in the above story:
As far as Joe T III the competitor goes...
I'll never forget that play in last year's UF game where he ended up slipping on the play, got back up, sprinted out for the pass (by the half back, I believe), leaped over a UF defender, stole the pass, and by shear will muscled his way into the endzone. I thought we were destined to win that game after I saw that.
If we had won that game that would've been probably one of the greatest plays in UGA history.
As far as feeling good w/ Joe T III behind center, I couldn't feel better. He's been in the system, he'll never give up, and he's tough as nails. You know he'll give it his all (not that others don't, but they might have other things on their mind; future contracts, not wanting to get hurt, etc.) What I saw in the UF game was a lot of conversative play calling and some bad breaks Joe couldn't prevent. I know people got down on him after that game (my friends in particular), but I always felt that game wasn't a good baromete of what Joe could do if we loosen the reigns a bit.
I think he can be a good QB. The only thing I have against him isn't really his fault. I'm already getting tired of the stupid abbreviations. I'm REALLY going to be sick of them by the end of the season. It's Tereshinksi. It's just like it sounds. Get used it. He's our starter now. I promise you JTIII isn't as cool sounding as you think it is.
Dante, you misspelled Tereshinski. It's just like it sounds...
I did mispell but just from a letter swap. Tereshinski. Happy? I also know how to spell "the" but that doesn't stop me from occasionally typing out "teh" instead. I will admit it is funny that I mispelled it given the context.
"I will admit it is funny that I mispelled it given the context."
The context of your post was the only reason I even brought it up.
Dante - I don't bother to spell it because I'd rather write JT3 than accidentally do what you just did.
Same with Mo Mass.

pwd - What's funny is that you did spell Tereshinski out in the Claussen story and even mispelled it the exact same way I did, by swapping the s and k. I can see abbreviating Massaquoi's name because it is a lot more phoenetically challenging.
And really the biggest reason I hate the JT3 abbreviation is because it finds its way into spoken conversations. I swear to you Tereshinski is just as easy to say as JT3. Here's a sample conversation of ultimate annoyance:
Mullet-wearing yahoo: "That J-T-3 is something else, man!"
Me: "Tereshinski."
Mullet-wearing yahoo: "What's that, man?"
Me: "Tereshinski. That's his name. He's our starter, you know?"
Mullet-wearing yahoo: "Yeah man! That J-T-3!"
Me: "Take off, Hoser."
Mullet-wearing yahoo: "J-T-3!!!! Snap into a Slim Jim!!!!"
Me: "Take off!"
The print abbreviation doesn't bother me as much but I do certainly see it as an enabler.
Dante - I promise that the next time I say the words "J-T-THREE" in normal non-drunk conversation, I am going to have someone call you so that you can drive over to my house and punch me in the balls. lol.
It just sounds queer. I normally say "Joe T" which is what many folks call him. Like "Coach K" at Duke.
If I recall correctly, Joe T's own father's email address is coacht@
BTW -- I don't say "CMR" either.

Why can't someone write/say Joe's name anyway they want? I didn't know everything had to be "ok'ed" by Dante to be legit. If someone isn't writing their thesis, why be proper, and why not just use the three easy keys of J, T, 3?
"Why can't someone write/say Joe's name anyway they want? I didn't know everything had to be "ok'ed" by Dante to be legit."
I missed the part where I said you have to spell/pronounce Joe Tereshinski's name or that anything had to be "ok'ed" by me. If you can show me where I said that I'd be much obliged.
However, just like you can write out JT3 or Joey T or l33t T or any other manner of silly abbreviation for Tereshinski, I can think you're a moron for doing it.
