Video: Family Friendly Zones Rejected by UGA Fans

With the help of many Dawg fans who sent in pictures and with my own video camera, I documented the "incredible success" of the Family Friendly Tailgate Zones. And by success, I mean almost totally empty and absent the hundreds upon hundreds of people who normally enjoy tailgating in these prime areas. What a cluster. Enjoy the music video.

Note: The original version had a great Georgia Crown joke in it, but I didn't want my ass kicked by a 60 something year old man. So I pulled it. I've seen how that ends.

If you can't view the video, here's an idea of what we're talking about.

Update: The Red and Black has an article up about the family zones.

You pretty much captured it.

Witness the death of two of the most festive and joyful areas in college football.

Funny and sad at the same time.

Good work.

With 92k in attendance I hardly believe the lack of enthusiasm for the "family friendly" zones at UGA was due to an overall lack of support for Georgia football.

If these zones receive little use all year I have to believe things will go back to how they were before too awful long.

That video is absolutely brilliant. Great work, PWD!

Boy, that's embarrassing.

And the thing is, this doesn't just penalize the student tailgaters who want to toss back a few. In effect Adams seems to be saying to adult alumni, "Yeah, y'know, I don't really trust most of y'all to responsibly consume alcohol in front of your kids."

I would say that eventually Adams is going to have to get over his nannying obsession, but sadly the Board of Regents seems to be in no hurry to call him out for any of the (many) stupid-ass decisions he's made over the last 8+ years.

HAAAAAA! I've never felt so much joy.

I saw 2 tailgate spots set up on North Campus at 10:30am.

The really screwed up thing about all of this is the fact that the number of kids attending games the rest of the season will drop considerably. It was easy to bring your kids to the WKU game because it was early and tickets were plentiful.

So the Family Friendly areas might be even more empty by the time the Vols come to town.

Great Job Mr Adams, More and More I hate You.

The new rules even sucked for corporate tents...my company always had a chance to rope off an area, wet up the night before, and have a great time with other corporate hosts. This year, Coors didn't come back, and the area was mostly empty. It was surreal how it was just boring standing there. I tried to pound a couple of beers (not a "family friendly area, apparently" and felt like I was the only one drinking, period. Just so odd.

I think Adams ought to be big enough to tell fans of his idiotic new rules BEFORE we contribute and buy tickets, which would give us the opportunity to vote with our bucks as well as our absences.

Great video.

I've never been so frustrated as I was when I ventured by our old tailgate spot in front of the chapel just to see it totally vacant. Why President Adams and crew must choose to take two of the best and most beautiful spots on campus from fans who support the program year by year, I'll never know.

And while I'm venting... do they plan to keep all the school restrooms closed for each game? I can't wait to see the lines for the 6 portalets by Herty Field on the weekends of Colorado, UT, and homecoming.

Everyone, please write a letter to Adams, Evans, and everyone else involved and see if we can't get this thing turned around.

How about between the first and second quarters, when someone from "United Distributing" in Charlotte was honored on the field for giving the University a $ 4.7MM check??? I don't know what "United Distributing" does, but I would be willing to wager a hefty sum that they distribute firewater! Why did Michael Adams let the evil bootleggers give money to the University??? The beer bong cartoon in the Red & Black a few weeks ago says it all!

I hope Michael Adams grabs a stingray by the tail. Maybe some mob-style vigilante justice is in order. I think I know exactly where his skybox is located. Anybody with me?

Looks like the family-friendly zones went over like a pregnant high jumper.

United Distributing is a wine distributor based out of Vermont.

Way to go, Il Duce.

I've got a new Family Friendly tailgating zone for you that includes free parking AND public restrooms. It's located at 570 Prince Avenue. Be sure to leave all your trash in the yard when you head to the game.

They were probably all too busy telling CMR how to re-order the depth chart to enjoy tailgating...

That's an inspired piece of work. Nice job!

That's pathetic and embarrasing. It looks like pre-game at Tech! That's something I never wanted to be compared to.

The situation in the "Family Friendly Zone" was a joke. There was hardly anyone there. In the meantime the area beside the library (the "Non Family Friendly" Zone) was packed. What's going to happen when Tennessee comes to town? That area was borderline unsafe because of overcrowding this past weekend. What about the 20,000 or so fans who show up without a ticket for the TN game? Where are they going to go? My other complaint is that our tickets in section 105 are pyhsically located closest to gate 3. The ticket says we are to enter gate 2. When we arrived at gate 3 to enter as we did all last season we were told we had to go to gate 2. There was NOBODY entering gate 3 and it's closest to our seats. We were made to go to gate 2 and wait 20 minutes to get in. What has happened to common sense up there? I guess gate 3 is reserved for all the big money going up to the northside skyboxes. Wouldn't want to inconvenience those people would we? There was NOBODY in line to enter at gate 3!!!

Outstanding commentary! I think we all knew that the "family Friendly Area" would never work.

Adams has not only ruined tailgating, but donations will drop to all time lows and the academic rankings in the magazine publications for the university will fall too. Thanks Michael F***in' Adams for alienating alumni, corporate sponsors, corporate recruiters, current students, and the State of Georgia. It's more than just what happened to Dooley... it always has been more than the Dooley mess.

"....complete with inflatables."

I think Mike needs to clarify this. Might get a crowd other than expected:)

That is completely pathetic. I am a parent of an alum as well as an alum of another SEC school. My school is also trying to take all of the fun and basically drive away all of the fans so they can pretend to become another ivy. People choose to go to school in the south for a reason, for heaven's sake. I always loved going to Georgia games. Glad my son graduated. We won't be coming to town for any more games!

Notice "Fat Adams" wasn't one of the three!! in family zone!!

What's wrong with a "Family Friendly Zone?" Have you ever thought of going through life sober? Alcohol is what is wrong with society today, and you college drunks only add to the destruction of the family.

Dear Friends,
I inheritated a faculty ticket discount at the age of 6, when my Mother died. I enjoyed it til I turned 18...then I got student tickets. From 71-86, I enjoyed tailgating & worshipping the DAWGS. I still worship them............BUT I'm not paying for Adams home on Lake Oconee or anything else til he's gone.
He's removed us from our old tailgating spots (imposed monetary donations to stay there). They drink plenty in the president's box...........but no one can drink in the stadium because it' state property. The only thing I can conclude is you must Know him, or pay mucho $$$, to drink in Sanford Stadium.
I enjoy your RAGE but have little sympathy for your plight. I'm watching on TV with a cold one. You're paying hundreds-thousands to purchase tickets & be pushed off campus.... or paying 10s of thousands to get the spot I used to have by getting there early.
Until we get rid of Adams, nothing is sacred

Sorry, that last comment was for a UGA sight bashing Regent Leeburn

One stupid person asked "What's wrong with a Family Friendly Zone?" Did that person not see this picture and video. Were you there dumb a** to support your stupid little Family Friendly Zone?
