CBS Uses Six-Day Selection Option on Nov. 11 Games

Source; SECSports:
CBS Sports has elected to use a six-day selection for games of November 11, 2006. The following four games are being held: Tennessee at Arkansas, Georgia at Auburn, South Carolina at Florida and Alabama at LSU. CBS will televise one of these four games at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. ET), while ESPN will televise one of these four games at 7:45 p.m. ET (6:45 p.m. CT), ESPN2 will televise one of the four games at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) and Lincoln Financial Sports will televise one of the four games at 12:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. CT). The selections should be made by Sunday afternoon based on the outcome of the Saturday, Nov. 4 games.

The remaining SEC game on the schedule for Nov. 11 will have Vanderbilt visiting Kentucky at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT).
If I were ranking the games right now, I’d go:

1. Arkansas at UT (#12 vs. #8)
2. UF vs. SC (Spurrier returns home with the chance to wreck #7 UF’s season)
3. UGA at AU (#6 AU hosting a bad UGA team in a great college rivalry game)
4. Bama at LSU (#13 hosting a horrible Bama team)

However...
LSU plays at UT this weekend.
Arkansas plays at South Carolina
UGA plays at UK

By Sunday, it could look more like this:
1. #11 Arkansas at #7 UT
2. #6 Florida playing a 4 loss Gamecock team that still has the Spurrier story
3. #5 Auburn vs. a rebounding 6-3 UGA team
4. #20 LSU hosts a boring 6-3 Bama

OR

1. #25 South Carolina vs. #6 Florida with a great storyline
2. #17 Arkansas at #13 UT
3. #5 Auburn vs. a rebounding 6-3 UGA team
4. #11 LSU hosts boring 6-3 Bama

God bless the Atlanta TV market, our ace in the hole. The wildcard in all of this...LSU doesn't want to play anymore day games. If they throw a fit about playing on LFSports at 11:30 am CST, they'll put the SEC in the position of trying to decide who to screw.

PWD

Note from Dawgnoxious: All things considered, I think I'd rather take my chances with a half-asleep AU team at 11:30 CST than a jacked AU team at 7:30.

PWD NOTE: LSU is the host team vs. Bama. I had it listed both ways above.

As much as I hate games that start that early, it really might be a good thing. Remember how out of it our crowd was at Vandy compared to the crowd vs. TN? College football fans generally need two things in order to be loud for a game: 1) alcohol; and 2) time to drink it.

I've sometimes wondered if our 2001 hobnailed boot comeback in Knoxville would have happened if that had been a true night game. Granted, the late kickoff didn't impact the 2002 comeback in Auburn, but I think this team would play better at noon (if for no other reason than being so accustomed to it!).

I'm not sure LSU would have as much say in the timing of that game with Bama because it is on the road.

My thoughts on this are I might want it at 6 in the morning so I can't watch. Remember Tray Blackmon on FLorida tackles? Now picture it on Dan Inman. ANd picture it again. ANd then one more time. Is the third string Joe in at QB yet? I have a feeling Tuberville and Muschamp are just drooling at the thought of Blackmon on a blitz, left 1 on 1 with any of the 3 OTs, or one of the TBs.

Realist - It's at LSU.

Here is how it will shake out:

1. South Carolina at Florida - Spurrier storyline makes this the #1 SEC game; CBS.

2. Tennessee at Arkansas - The most competitive and meaningful game in the SEC standings but lacks appeal to the casual football fan; ESPN.

3. Alabama at LSU - Both teams try to stay in the running for the SEC West title. Should be a low scoring, competitive game; ESPN2 late game.

4. Vanderbilt at Kentucky - Both teams are trying to gain their first bowl bid in years. Game is expected to be high scoring and down to the wire; Lincoln Financial.

5. Georgia at Auburn - Auburn has a strong appeal and is in the running for the national title. Game is not expected to be competitive; 2pm eastern, no TV.

Nope. If UT and Arky both win this weekend, they'll be the 330 CBS game.

ESPN will be slobbering all over itself to get Darth Visor's return to the Swamp

As for AU/UGA and LSU/BAMA, heck, both are rivalry games, both feature home teams that love to play at night and both are facing teams that are stinking it up. Face it PWD: We are every bit as boring and infuriating to watch as Bama.

If I had to guess it plays out like this:

We start the day watching Bama snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again in Baton Rouge, transistion to a game that actually means something to the SEC race in UT and Arkansas, and then we'll get to flip back and forth between ESPN fellating Spurrier and his return to the swamp, and the Dawgs getting dismembered at AU on ESPN2.

LSU-Alabama will be a good game.

Alabama is a much better team than Georgia this year and they almost always play well in Baton Rouge.

I will take the early. Put me at ease for full day on the coach. The schedule has been murder this season.
