Three Auburn assistant coaches linked to other jobs

Al Borges, AU's offensive coordinator, wants to be a candidate for the Stanford job; although, no one has contacted him yet. He grew up about 75 miles from the Stanford campus. Former Michigan alum Jim Harbaugh also wants to be considered for the job. He attended Palo Alto High School, and his father was a Stanford assistant coach. Stanford, unlike Alabama, is keeping their selection process quiet.

Greg Knox is being considered for the head coaching position at Tulane. Knox coaches wide receivers at Auburn, and he has been an assistant under Tuberville since the Ole Miss days. The New Orleans paper says that Knox interviewed for the job on Thursday and Friday. Harbaugh is being considered for this job too.

Auburn running back coach Eddie Gran is in talks with North Texas about their open position. The very well traveled Gran has also been with Tuberville since Ole Miss. Gran has coached in California, Missouri, North Carolina, Miami, Idaho, Ohio, Mississippi and Alabama. His bio all but states that he has toted his pack along the long dusty Winnemucca Road.

Other than the revolving door at the coordinator positions, Tuberville's core staff has been fairly stable. Hugh Nall (OL), Terry Price (DEs), Don Dunn (DTs), Greg Knox (WRs) and Eddie Gran (RBs) have all been with Tuberville since Ole Miss. You want to know why he's been so successful? Stability is a big part of it.

Auburn's coaching instability could be UGA's gain.

Stanford would do well to take Borges for their coaching job. I don't think it's a coincidence that Auburn got really good right after Tommy had to give up the offensive clipboard (on threat of being fired). Left to his own devices, Tuberville looks a bit Donnanesque. Ever since Borges took over the offense, they've been fantastic. I've never seen Borges outsmart himself and he doesn't fall into that trap of having too much pride to just run the ball over and over. I'll bet you money that if Borges leaves, Tuberville will try to get the offensive reigns all to himself again. As a Georgia fan, I'm really hoping that happens. I'd sure love to see more offensive bedetting like Tuberville did during the 2003 UGA vs. Auburn game. Georgia tackled the RB for a loss a few times and Tuberville just gave up on the run entirely.
