Allen Bailey Eliminates Dawgs from Recruiting Process

Bailey is a stud LB/DE prospect, and he has eliminated Georgia from his list. Anyone trying to downplay his abilities now as badly as UGA appeared to want him until 30 minutes ago is nothing more than a Sour Grapes whiner. He's a talented kid, and the Dawgs would've and still would take him in a heartbeat.

All the grumbling about "We wouldn't promise him that he'd play LB. Everyone else lied to him." That's weak. We appear to have gone hard after him, and we got beat.

As for the bitching about our signing class missing out on 2 or 3 kids this week. Are you freaking kidding me? We have 23 commitments. Most are studs. The ones who are more lightly recruited are at positions where we have extreme need and large numbers. Out of all the kids we most desperately appear to have wanted, we lost two alpha studs in Bailey and Eric Berry. It won't be a Top 10 class because we're signing a kicker and we signed 8+ offensive lineman.

AND because we locked up so many players so early, we're off to a ultra fast start for 2008 already.

If I had the success in my dating life that Coach Richt has on the recruiting trail, I sure as hell wouldn't have time to blog.

So what you're saying is that I should stop telling the girls I meet on eHarmony that I'm PaulWesterdawg to impress them? Crap!

Your loss Bailey. Have a nice life with your "mommy". Where of where is your Daddy?

Amen. This class has fit our immediate needs perfectly and next years is set to be the best one ever with AJ Green, Richard Samuel and others.

Good luck to Allen Bailey (but hope he goes to the U)

PWD, I'm sure we wanted him BAD. But what promises do you have to make to get the kid? I think you and I can agree that what has happened to Brandon Miller, at the fault of Brandon Miller, has been a lose/lose situation. What I can't figure out is why folks think it's absurd that the coaching staff sees a great deal of potential for the same thing happening with Allen. FYI, I think the kid, er, make that grown ass man, is really a tackle that's disguised as an end, wrapped up in being a linebacker. Christ, with the way linebackers are being asked to cover so much space, Bailey's gonna look like he's chasing greased pigs.

What promises were made to Brandon Miller? The kid wanted to play WIDE RECEIVER. We stuck him at Linebacker.

Hell, GT told him he could play running back.

I follow a lot of recruiting and Allen insisted on playing linebacker...even though everyone knows he is going to have to put his hand down or not see the field. What 270 lb linebacker will start in the SEC? Honestly, in reviews from all-star games...he didn't get good reports. He didn't dominate. He played DL in the GA All-Star game and was stuffed by Claytor. Played LB in Army game and didn't particulary look great. I'm not bashing the guy...I wish him the best of luck in the future. Either you want to be a Dawg or you don't. And if you don't want to be a Dawg, prepared to get ran over cause our future is extremely bright with him or without him. Dewberry, Ellerbe, Gamble, Dent, Hebron, Washington, White, and Curran. Speed, Speed, and more speed.

I am definitely not a recruitnik, but if the report I saw that he has 5.0 speed in the 40 is correct, and if he really insisted on playing LB, then I say "good luck, but good riddance." And I mean that in the best possible way.

Allen Bailey could have been a beast at DE for UGA. Who knows, he probably will still be one for somebody. I think a lot of this has to do with his coach...who BTW is a Bama Grad.. and Kirby Smart/Nick Saben low balling UGA.

BTW, lets not Forget...he has a lot to learn at DE. Got his ass whipped by Nick Claytor in the GA north/South game. Also, I think Chad Simmons had some video footage of Bruce Figgins driving him 15 yards off the ball during those practices. Friggens sounds like another Ben Watson. But he's just a 3-star...so he'll suck. <<<----FYI, thats sarcasm.

Classy, Anon.

Shouldn't you have swapped back over to the UF bandwagon by now, anyway?

As for the absurd claytor comments.

You guys do realize that Claytor is a TECH commitment that we didn't offer?

It could just be that Claytor is a bad ass and we didn't offer him as per usual Callaway recruiting.

Since you mentioned Callaway, I feel obligated to report that over here in the Salty 'Ham, some UAB football fans are already starting to show frustration with Callaway's recruiting. Apparently, if you look at our commitment list and look at all the other schools who were in the running for them, they're almost all D-IAA schools. I think there was one guy who was also being courted by Troy.

A buddy/co-worker of mine expressed displeasure with this, and all I could say was, "Welcome to my world." If I had the success in my dating life that Coach Callaway has had on the recruiting trail . . . well, actually I pretty much do have the success in my dating life that Coach Callaway has had on the recruiting trail.

It's hard to believe he'd couch his decision on wanting to play linebacker, but whatever. This is a very good class, and recruiting rankings are vastly overrated. Neither Thomas Davis nor Greg Blue nor Quentin Moses were highly touted recruits, but they all turned out to be pretty darn good players.

What matters more is what the coaches can do with them, and judging by our successes the past few years, Georgia's coaching staff can do some pretty good things with them.

Also, regarding Israel Troupe and his desire to play baseball, has there been any talk of getting this kid to play for Georgia's baseball team?

That keeps that door open for him and lets him get an education too.

Yes, Israel Troupe is suppose to play Baseball for UGA.

BTW, F(#K the AJC!!

Yeah, maybe we should have offered Claytor especially since he was a huge Dawg fan but the coaches saw somethin in him that they didn't like. If it makes you feel better, I read that the next week in another all-star game he got manhandled and overmatched. We got studs on the oline coming in so I'm not really disturbed over not having Claytor

Diversity, Perhaps.

As a former resident of the Golden Isles, I wonder if perhaps the rather poor treatment of the Gullah-Geechee had any impact into Mr. Bailey's choice.

UGA doesn't have the best reputation as a bastion of diversity or open-mindedness. And while this has changed for the better since I was in the Classic City, I woudn't be surprised if Mr. Bailey ended up at UF or UM. From experience, both schools tend to reflect a greater diversity of viewpoints - especially UM.

Don't shoot the messenger.

WOW, recruiting is getting out of control... and the 'recruitniks' certainly aren't helping matters. I mean just look at the 2nd comment on this page for Christ's sake. IMO to half these people it's almost more about the star rankings and SUPERmythical recruiting championship than the future of all our respective programs. And that's a joke. This 2007 UGA class is BADASS folks, make no mistake. Were there a few "misses?" Perhaps. Happens every year. But we got more than our share, we got more of the studs we wanted than we "missed out" on. This OLine class is SICK, and I could tell by several of Richt's comments during and after games that he finally gets it, OLine in the SEC is #1, can't do much without a good line. The only disappointment I'll share with some of you is that we don't appear to have (m)any "playmaker" type receivers. But who knows, maybe Izzy Troupe will shun baseball and turn into one. Aron White has athleticism through the roof. Maybe somebody already on campus will progress into one. Hell, everybody in the country wanted Caleb King, we should still be stoked about that. I am, but some folks seem to just put a check beside him on their list and move on like some crazed cookie monster or something "OMG WE GOTTA GET MORE WHENS THE NEXT VERBAL!!!" Rennie Curran is a great kid on and off the field, this class seems full of em.

So some of yall need to calm down. To think that someone's actual character or football abilities is determined or measured by some geek like Jamie Newberg putting an extra star by their name?! Ridiculous. I for one will not be renewing my membership to rivals when it expires. Not because I don't enjoy some of their articles, but because most of their message boards have been making me close the page or turn my computer off in disgust more often than not lately. Honestly... grow up people. Anon #1, that DEFINITELY includes your sorry ass.

I was hoping Bama was a player for this guy's commitment but I never thought he would leave the state of Georgia. If not Bama, I hope he leaves the SEC all together. He's going to hurt QBs and RBs for years to come.

let's be honest, 99% of the recruitnicks judge players on the 2 inch picture on Rivals. Lets take the mudcat for example, hands down, baddest looking dude ever on rivals, so of course, EVERYONE loves him.

Same thing with Bailey, he's strong as an ox. Is that a rarity for HS, yes. But will that hold in the SEC? no, everyone gets jacked up in the SEC. Miss St has a roster full of guys that look like gladiators. He just happens to be a year or so ahead of most.

We wanted him, it wasnt mutual, oh well, no big deal. (the day I cancelled memberhsips to rivals and scout was the day I got my life back, recruiting is like a virus, best to keep away from it)

I would have loved to have gotten Berry and Bailey, but I don't want us to go promising someone he'll play a position that we don't feel he's suited for. It'll only breed hostility in the lockerroom and resentment in his dorm room...don't want people unhappy, we want guys to rally together.

And as far as Rivals goes, you gotta figure they are gonna tout the guys that will be at programs that regularly produce Natl Championships and Heismans, cuz then they look back and say, hey, he was one of our five star guys and lookie-lookie, he was on a natl champ team....see!? we sure know how to pick 'em!

Fill the holes, keep deep, and results will come...once we win a national chamipoship, recruiting will be very, very different...I assure you.

Go Dawgs!

And Stafford is the MAN!
