Brown scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and all of his points were from the low post block. I have never seen a Georgia player shoot 10 of 15 from the low block, face rough and tumble double teams and not get a single foul called in his favor.
UK leaned on him, they muscled him, they pushed, they slapped and they prodded. But not once did a Foot Locker Sales Rep blow his whistle and send Brown to the foul line. A game called with more opened minded officiating on Takais' block gives him 4-5 more points. But I digress.
Think back. When was the last time you remember a Georgia front court player scoring 20 points all from the low block with his back to the basket? Steve Thomas, Jonas Hayes, Ant Evans, Jumaine, Zo Hall, etc. I don't remember any of those guys hunkering down on the low block in an SEC game and putting 10 shots in the hole. Much less 18 points in a half.
Brown is a weapon.
Felton said the game plan from the beginning was to get the ball inside to Takais, but we failed miserably at that in the first half. In fact, Felton joked after the game that he threatened bodily harm during halftime to the next player that jacked up a three before passing the ball inside to Takais. (paraphrase)
If we can run the offense through Brown, mix in some nice drives to the basket and some occasional kick out threes, we're a much tougher team to stop. We just can't go 10 minute stretches of forgetting about Brown.
If we keep feeding the beast, he'll keep filling the bucket.

I can't precisely place it in my hazy memories, but I have this weird image of TE Larry Brown coming out of nowhere and playing outrageously well in the paint, if for one game only. Anyone remember that?
He was outrageous in that game. It was either the SEC semis or quarterfinals.
But he didn't score 10 buckets on the low block.

Bob Lienhard.
Kidding. I saw Brown one day when the team was working out at Ramsey. I didn't see him play - just met him coming out of the doors when I was going in - and I was impressed with his presence: not merely tall, but big, bad arse mofo kind of big. Then I saw them working out for maybe five or ten minutes a day or two later, and I thought: This is the missing piece. He may not score the most, he may not block the most and some nights it might look like he was just another player, but when he was in the game, nobody was going to beat our butts down low. Nobody.
And as an added bonus, A. Jackson looks like he can do the same thing for us in a year or two.

Oh yeah?
Rob Dryden did it in his last game against Mizzou in the tourney. It was unbelievable.
Terry Fair against St. John's in '83. Trust me, it was all from the low block, as T. Fair could not hit the backboard from more than about six feet.
In any case, TB's performance last night was certainly an unparalleled example of grown-ass-manitude, as Fair ran around Bill Wennington all night (in most cases without the big Canadian even flinching he was so outquicked), while TB went straight through the Cats.
