Monkey Removal, Inc. -- Lady Dawgs Win

Andy Landers and the Lady Bulldogs got a huge monkey off their backs last night beating Top 10 LSU at home on a last second buzzer beater by freshman guard Ashley Houts. Just a few seconds earlier, Houts had missed the front end of a one and one free throw that would've iced the game. Total money bucket from the youngster at the horn. Stegeman has been nothing but drama the past two weeks.

I may have heard this incorrectly on the telecast, but I could've sworn I heard the announcers say that Landers hadn't beaten a Top 10 team since 2001. But that has to be wrong. Can someone check and email me or leave a comment.

Best headline goes to the Athens Banner Herald: "Houtstanding Finish"

Separately...blog news:
Hopefully, you can tell the blog seemed a bit "off" this week. I had time stamp screw upso on articles and pretty lightweight postings. Basically, I had some internet connectivity issues and work conflicts. The blog isn't on hiatus. At least as far as I know. lol.

That stat is surely incorrect. Georgia beat Tennessee in the 2004 SEC Tournament, and UT is rarely out of the top 10. They also beat Purdue in the 2004 NCAA tourney when Purdue was a 2-seed.

It might have referred to home wins, but I'm not even sure that's right. Texas might have been top 10 when we beat them in Nov 2004.

I've heard some similar stat, but it's a bit misleading this year since wins over Rutgers, Stanford, and Vandy came as all of those teams were ranked between 11-15. In the past two weeks, Georgia has beaten Vandy, Ole Miss, FSU, and LSU - all teams ranked at some point this year.

yeah - I thought that was lunacy.

But they said something insane like that. Maybe they meant "Top 10 SEC teams?"

I'll ask the SID.

I think you may have mis-heard (?) the announcer. I thought she said 2004.

Landers still blows. JMHO. If many of us give the Manning family crap (perhaps that will change tomorrow night), why do so many folks bend over backwards to try and make Andy the King of women's Hoops coaching or something... or Prince, seeing how the UConn guy is better. As is Pat and whoever coaches LSU lately.

Never forget the SEC CG a few years ago vs Vandy...another glaring example of his shortcomings as a coach. 30 years of slightly above mediocre yet WAY below Elite. If just being above average is the ultimate goal, then yeah... he's the guy for the job! Again, JMHO.

Dude - he's like the 4th winningest active coach in women's hoops.

Under Landers the Lady Dawgs have:
-- 5 Final Fours
-- 10 Elite Eights
-- 16 Sweet 16s
-- 11 SEC Regular season and Tourney titles

And Andy has averaged 24+ wins per year. He's hardly "above average."

He's just had the misfortune of being in the same league with Pat Summitt. Summitt is the John Wooden of women's hoops.

Imagine Dean Smith being in the Pac-10 during Wooden's tenure.
