Recruiting Update: Toby Jackson Commits to UGA

Georgia picked up its 12th commitment when Toby Jackson (6'4" 240 lb 4 star DE) gave his verbal to Mark Richt on Sunday. According to DawgPost.com, he'll still take other visits, attend other camps and listen to other schools, but he's 100% commited to UGA. Recruiting....go figure.

Jackson is the fourth recruit to verbal to the Dawgs in the past two weeks including Makiri Pugh (DB), Christian Robinson (LB) and Tavarres King (WR).

The Pugh commitment is especially interesting to me. He's will be the fifth kid from Independence High School since Robert Brannon (Signing day '99) opened the door that Mario Raley (2002), Mo Mass (2005), Joe Cox (2005) and Pugh (2008) have / will walk through.

The 12 commits include:
    3 DBs
    2 WRs
    2 DEs
    1 DT
    1 LB
    1 RB
    1 K
    1 TE
Both Dean Legge (DawgPost.com) and Chad Simmons (UGASports.com) are expecting Georgia to sign 25 kids this year. So we're at the half way mark, and it's not even July yet. Things couldn't be going much better.

Also, if you're wondering why recruiting is going so much better this year, it may be because Richt has stepped up his game. Loran Smith talks about "The New Mark Richt" in today's Athens Banner Herald (ht - dawgbone.net). Apparently, Coach Richt has started saying "No" to more personal appearance requests, and he has started saying "yes" to much more in face recruiting during the May evaluation period. It's paying off huge for Georgia.

Orland Sentinel reports Donovan is going back to UF. Magic are letting him out of the contract.

souletrain - it's a great article by Mark Schlabach. I've written a short piece about it for either late tonight or tomorrow.

I look at this as an example of the maturation of Richt the head coach. Another would be the handing of the offensive reigns to Bobo. Richt is learning how to be a better delegator which will pay off handsomely for UGa.
