Rivals.com Debuts the Rivals 250

The top 250 recruits in the country get 4 or more stars from Rivals. Actually, they give out more four stars than that, but that's beside the point. This week Rivals released the Top 250 kids in a pack. However, they haven't gone in and ranked each specific kid against the others. Yet.

I personally think that it's a sketchy process ranking kids before their senior year of high school. Regardless of the recruiting service. However, I'm a sucker for it. It provides a framework for discussing relative strengths of kids and programs. Plus, kids move up or down as their seasons progress.

In the latest rankings, Georgia's commit list has more stars than the red carpet on Oscar night. Nine of Georgia's 12 commitments are rated 4 stars or higher by Rivals. Last year 12 of our 23 commitments were rated that highly by the Rivals network.

Six of the committed recruits are from the state of Georgia. Only 15 kids in the state have been given 4 stars, and we already have six locked up. Not too shabby.

One of the great conversation pieces that Rivals provided was a breakdown of players by state and position. The guys over on Scout.com's site keep using the term juggernaut. I personally can't think of a better word to describe this year's recruiting, and we've still got almost nine months left.
