Well, that color of blue looks really good on ya

We've all heard some tall tales from the ladies over the years. And this is as funny as any of it. A bunch of Vol co-eds talking about the incredible depth of hospitality that the Big Orange Women share with their Gator counterparts vs. the savage treatment these girls were shown by Athens Finest.

I've been to six football games and two basketball games in Knoxville. There are many words I'd use to describe the Vols and their fans. Warm and congenial aren't two of them.

Speaking of fake news of UGA fans being evil...the first in a series of yearly message board articles by Gamecock fans discussing the evils of a trip to Athens is up. The UGA fans on DawgRun.com have their reaction up as well. My favorite on the thread is this guy:
UGA with out a doubt. last time there they stole 2 of our kids at a red light then during the game they dropped radioactive material on us from a copter. then after they won the game the players came into the stands and took our women and the police beat the rest of us with clubs. when we got back to the parking lot all of our cars had been towed and it cost $10,000 to get it out. they were all empty of gas and all the gas stations in athens had jacked the price up to $14 a gallon to south carolina fans. then no restarunt would serve us and we wern't alowed on the expressway to get home and had to take backroads and we got 32 tickets from the police in the little towns we had to go thru. then when we finally got home the IRS came to our house and said they were tipped off by UGA that we had cheated on our taxes and i had to do 6 months and pay back $98,000 to them. i can't wait to go beat the he!! out of them this year
Stephen King's got nothing on Gamecock fans.

The Gamecocks should realize that the ACC police treat everyone that way.

I traveled with the Dogs to every stadium in the SEC except LSU, and I can only remember two times when bottles- not plastic cups, empty liquor bottles- were thrown at players or staff and that was in Knoxville and Ole Miss.
I remember reading about how Florida fans would throw cups of pee on players at the Swamp, but never witnessed that when we were there. I will say that was one of the loudest and most hostile atmospheres to play in.
I also recall idiot Kentucky fans throw game balls up the stands and out of the stadium after PATs and FGs, but on the whole 'Cat fans are usually not bad (for football).
I don't recall anything too out of line in Columbia other than throwing empty plastic cups (which I saw several times in Athens).
The fact is that every school has some @$$holes or redneck jerks, it just seems that the Vol and Cock fans have a vivid imagination to go along with those other attributes.

Richt-flair nailed it. That SC fan thread has to be one of the most pathetic things I've ever read. All it needs is some snooty moralizing about their school's staggering academic superiority and it could be . . . a Georgia Tech fan thread.

I wouldn't doubt that we're the worst SC has been to. I wouldnt think many of the other SEC schools really care much about them. It's like when Vandy comes to UGA, do you really care enough about Vandy to talk crap to them?

I'd i'll admit, we are obnoxious.

On the other hand, SC is the worst I have been to (havent been to LSU, Arky, MSU or The Swamp). The beer throwing and fights were common.

I take exception to that lamecock post - we would never charge $14.00/gallon for gas! That would mean those dirt-poor rednecks would never leave!!!

I think there's a function of scheduling at play here too.

South Carolina plays us early in the season, usually the first SEC game and usually the first game against a good opponent (Okie State is the exception, compared to Utah State/Directional Louisiana/etc).

So when they come to Athens, UGA fans are usually fired up, and ready to unleash 9 months of aggression on a real opponent. I'm not saying we're as bad as they say (obviously, we're not), but I also think we might let things out on them worse than we would for, say, Mississippi State as the 5th game of the season.

Then, take a look at it from their perspective. They come to Athens, where we're all fired up and ready to let them have it. They (frequently) lose, and then they lose a couple of other SEC games. The next time they roll out on the road to wherever it might be, Carolina's an afterthought. A team whoever they're playing assumes will beat.

Effectively, our beating them takes the wind out of the sails of most other teams's fans. They don't see UT fans at their worst because UT fans don't care enough about them by the time they play them. Same with anyone else.

LD - some of it is scheduling as you say. Some of it is geography.

South Carolina fans on those threads by in large have ONLY been to UGA, Clemson and maybe UT. They are on the other end of the conference from almost everyone. They simply haven't been exposed to the rest of the league. AND they have no rivals in the league other than us.

No one but us gives a damn about them. So why give them any grief. It's like ARK fans. They are the nicest fans in the world....to us. But if you're from Texas it's a whole different deal.

Having been to 75 road games with UGA and 10-20 other games in Columbia, Tech, Penn State and other bowls), I can tell you that SC fans are different. They react to us in a very visceral fashion. They're just small and petty with a real odd inferiority complex. So they take everything MUCH more personal than other fan bases.

I've been treated like crap by fans from all the schools in the SEC, but I've also met a lot cool people at all the schools, it just depends who you run into.

I've heard nothing but good things about UGA fans from non conference opponents like boise and colorado fans.

The only place I've ever seen grown men throw full cans of beer at women was in Knoxville, TN after the 2003 game. Classy!

I had the misfortune of living and working in Knoxville during the fall of 2003. I was working at a restaurant on the strip and usually got off early in the afternoon while people were still filing in to the game. Of course, while walking to my car from the restaurant (of course I had to park 4 miles away from my job during gameday, I never understood why they didn't leave special employee perking for gameday Saturdays) I would wear my cap with a big G on it and I would get called so many names and yelled at by so many drunks (and this wasn't only on the day of the UT-UGA game). Vol fans are foul, foul, foul, and foul.

My personal fave:

"Ur right, we are gracious hosts, except when we get gypped AT LEAST once during the season by some of the SEC's "finest" . That's when things get ugly, the BS call gets raised, water bottles get thrown, and people get arrested. That is the ONLY time we are not gracious hosts. The bad thing is, it usally happens more than once a year."

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Its all fun and games until somebody gets hits with a fishing sinker and suffers partial paralysis in their face. I personally would have said the guy used a cow prod or something, but that wouldn't have sounded as dramatic I guess.

Any Gamecock fan that thinks Athens is so bad, I would invite them to go to the next UGA game in Columbia and wear a UGA hat and walk around before the game. They don't have to say a word or look at anybody twice. Just wearing a UGA hat would show him just how classless some of them can be.

As for Tennessee girls, most of them were raised in a holler, some without indoor plumbing. Once they leave that state, things might get just a little too sophisticated for them. Kidding, just kidding!

These "worst fans' threads are so stupid. If they're really concerned about it they probably should try and clean up their own mess first. Because we all have our share of "fans" that we're ashamed of. I've personally seen quite a few in Knoxville and Columbia.

I'm a Gamecock fan. I've been to Athens once for a game. I think LD has it right where both teams are ready for an SEC game after nine months and are fired up. Having said that, I didn't find Athens that bad...there are assholes and there are cool fans, just like every other SEC school. I personally think Athens is a great place to spend a weekend and I have been back several times for concerts and just to have a road trip weekend.

Richt-flair is the best handle I've ever seen.
