There is no reason to redshirt Caleb King. He should at the very least be returning kickoffs and keep TB, Moreno and any other skill position starters out of that meat grinder. Isn't that how TB got hurt last year? If CK doesn't play we'll go from 3 backs that have had meaningful game time to 1. Doesn't make sense. It also helps recruiting to keep these kids moving along in the system as well.
I would wager that the decision to RS King has more to do with academics than football. I agree with jnd's rationale, but in this case I think they're trying to get the kid acclimated to the academic requirements. - hh
