GT's Rambling Wreck and the Georgia Sports Blog

As regular readers of this site know, two Georgia Tech students crashed the rambling wreck back in June of this year. In the days immediately following the crash, the Techies attempted to hide the smashed vehicle and keep their treasured tradition away from the public eye.

The Georgia Sports Blog offered a $100 bounty for the pics. The pics were delivered within days by the Macon Telegraph. Anyway...CSTV profiled the rebuilding of the car in a segment last week, and the Georgia Sports Blog was featured.

NOTE: because of technical problems for Mac users, I've eliminated the embedded link to the video. To watch the video, go directly to the site here.

HT - Kerri W. of CSTV for the link.

It's the rambled wreck from Georgia Tech,
and it's stuck on the side of the road
Anyone who remembers our glory,
must be really old

We suck at playing football!
And at meeting girls too..

They do realize they're talking about a Ford, right?

According to Wes Durham, the Wreck is very important to Georgia Tech...Then why don't get some insurance for that car so they don't have to hold bake sales and car washes to raise money for the repairs. Have they not heard of GEICO? It is so easy even a techie can do it.

this just has to be reposted:

Dear Nerd,

First off, UGA VI is a live animal. You have a car for a mascot. So there's no reason to show compassion to a thing vs. a living creature.

Secondly, the entire Uga Family is hurt all the time. Eye surgery, knee surgery, bad backs, etc.

But they play through the pain.

They aren't whiny bitches that freak out over a few cosmetic scratches and dings.

"You don't want UGA fans putting it on a t-shirt."- Tek Wreck sitter

My first thought upon hearing this comment from the the keeper of the Tek rust bucket is, of course, where can I purchase this t-shirt???

If it's not available already, I smell an instant business opportunity. Hey, what can I say, UGA's Terry College of Business taught me to be quite the entrepreneur.

"I usually come down here almost every day just to be with... err be around the car and look at it..."

This reminds me of that SNL Short Film with Will Ferrell as Glenn Frey and Ben Stiller saying "I just want to be with you!"

I'm sure the most expensive part of the restoration is reinforcing the frame and finding the industrial-strength monster truck shocks to hold up that passel of 'ladies' that ride the lawnmower into the buzzbowl...

The driver along with his brother, thankfully, were not hurt and the Wreck still rides. Most Tech fans were just happy no one was hurt because the Wreck can be fixed and was.

According to my pals in Tech's insurance area, the car has always been insured. There was just bad reporting in the initial press releases.

I'm surprised you posted this video since it shows how terrible uga fans can be. This kid got harassed by a-hole uga fans. Pretty pathetic fan base, imho, to attack a college kid after a pretty terrible car accident.

Hmmmmm.....whatever mean comments anyone said to the driver, I don't think that tops the Tech fan that wrote in to Lewis Grizzard after his editorial about the death of a great UGA alum and fan. The Tech fan wrote a nasty letter to Grizzard saying, "Good! That's one less Dog to worry about."

Grizzard was right when he said the "T" stands for Tacky!

Pretty terrible fan base to bombard the opposition with cups and bottles in the middle of the game...

I don't think there's much equivalence here: human > animal. There is a person behind the car that is much more important (no matter uga/tech affiliation) than a silly animal mascot.

We wouldn't be happy about it if some nerd got seriously hurt. Grow up.

Oh and hey PWD, is there any way to make it so the video doesn't start up every time GSB loads?

crap! it doesn't do that in Firefox. Let me look at this bewildering code again.

did that fix it?

Talk about a crap load of useless code. I deleted 80% of it.

hobnail_boot: I love it!!

anon who posted AFTER s.w.a.b.: There is nothing wrong with picking on the North Avenue Trade School under any circumstances. PERIOD. If you don't like it... go elsewhere!

As for the video... I let out a long "awwwwwww" and a "WHO GIVES A SH*T!" I hope they wreck the Wreck at the 50 yard line. I hope it falls apart when it is driven into that hole on North Avenue.

Oh... as they restore that hunk of junk, will they take the request from the cheerleaders and fix the tail pipe so it no longer burns??
(ouch!)

Let's see, the BC cheerleaders are humans too. It's a shame they had to fear for their lives the other night at Tech. That's their words, not mine.

Last Saturday night ranks right up there with Tech fans throwing liquor bottles at Bear Bryant (see the pic of Bryant with a helmet at Grant Field), throwing fish at Notre Dame players because they're Catholic, keying cars and throwing trash at the Redcoat Band every time we visit, hitting a ref with batteries thrown from the stands at the 2002 FSU game, students attacking the Maryland band after they beat you, and throwing trash at Notre Dame cheerleaders and fans last year.

They were all people too. But I suppose some Tech folks prefer to be selective in their love and concern for their fellow human beings.

Whatta hypocrite.......

yep Paul, that did the trick
