T. Boone's Saturday

For those of you not totally sick of T. Boone Pickens, his top hat, gold house, rocket car, and habit of lighting fat Cuban cigars with $10,000 dollar bills, the Dallas Morning News has an in depth story on his trip to Athens. Pickens, along with the rest of the "common" Pokes, came in with high hopes, but departed before the Chapel bell rang.

Best of luck to Okie State. See you in Stillwater in 2009. By then we expect English butlers to show us to our seats and robot vendors to bring us all the caviar and pate on toast points we can stand.

Nice to know that the article confirms his status as a major league pompous asshat. Rather than calling fans he's never seen before "nasty", perhaps he should have said "If OK State scores more than 15 points, we'll have to take off both shoes to keep track of the score." Ignorance really knows no socio-economic boundaries.

I was interested to find out that his wife used to be married to Allen Paulson.

Her hubby's have a thing for college stadiums, don't they?

And I'd have to disagree with anon 1:05. I thought he sounded like a decent enough guy.

The only "nasty" Dawgs I saw on Saturday were on the field. Sanford was rocking in a really positive, great way. Sounds to me like that might have intimidated ole T. Boone and his wifey a bit.

As an aside, in my experience, out-of-town fans with whom UGA has no history (i.e., not Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, gatech.edu, etc.) have a great time in Athens and, like T. Boone, they typically go home disappointed.

Onward and upward I say, let's get nasty on S.C.

D-Bag.

It'll be fun to spoil his 'look at me' party in '09.

Actually, the dumbest comment he made was, "They thought they were getting Florida Atlantic." What?!!? Where did he get that? Apparently, he thought Ok State was playing Michigan. Uh, no, Boony, if nothing else, the Vandy game last year has taught us not to take anyone lightly. Also, we went 9-4 last year and it was considered a down year. By the way, in the second half, your boys scored just as many as Florida Atlantic.

He trash-talks prematurely, gets worked up over the most minor moral victories, and books out of the stadium early . . . is T. Boone sure he didn't actually graduate from Georgia Tech?

My alma mater (West Texas) is also a recipient of Pickens' good graces monetarily. In fact, the business school is named after him. I like the guy because he gives back and he's trying to make things better where they're not that good. Who among us hasn't been that optimistic (and more) during UGA losses? Take a step back, gentlemen.

Personally, being a UGA grad student from Texas, I'd like nothing more than to see OK St. build up, get better, and start beating the hell out of Oklahoma again.

Plus, now there'll be more seats in Stillwater when we head west in '09!

Doug you hit the nail on the head. Sounded exactly like a Tech fan. Trash talking way to early and then leaving way to early with a big chip on their shoulder.

A lot of times we tend to assume that rich people are different - that they are somehow smarter than us, harder working, maybe better looking, and that they use their wealth for good. T. Boone just burst that bubble...

T Boone has loads of class. Apparently, it's all low. If he wants to buy into the tired stereotype of how badly we treat opposing fans, fine. Keep your rich ass back in Texas and you'll be safe, Boone.

Glad to see he lifted his skirt and fled the premises well before the game was over. I guess he was disappointed to find out $200 million just doesn't buy what it used to.

He sounded like the typical billionaire benefactor to me. His kids aren't his biggest fans, whatever that tells you. But his largess is still commendable.

Also remember that he had a reporter in his face from the time he was shooting doves in Texas until they bolted the stadium in Tech-like fashion. There is no telling what else he said, good or bad. I doubt he left Sanford with the impression that UGA fans are nasty. But then again, they didn't beat us.

I can't fault him that much. I was disgusted by some of the fans in the area near the band and the stuff they said to the opposing team after the game was over and they were walking back to their lockers. I really thought we usually acted better than that (I remember the Colorado fans having a great time, and telling them I was looking forward to seeing Boulder in a couple of years), but there were just a couple jackasses hanging over the railing taunting the team, after we'd won!

Anytime you have 100,000 people you are going to have a few jackasses. Throw enough alcohol into the mix and jackasses as a percentage of the total grows exponentially.

Getting badgered and berated by fools at a ballgame is not uncommon. I am sure all of the guys had heard it before.

Assholes and jerks are best ignored.

I completely agree, but I wanted to point out that our fans aren't all roses and cherry pie for visiting teams, like the earlier posts seemed to suggest.

Isn't there something really misplaced about spending that kind of money on sports? I love sports, but still.
