YouTube Ole Miss Week

The obvious: Col. Reb is Crying.

Old Miss band playing Dixie in the Grove last year. That's my drunk ass shooting the video, singing and laughing in hysterics. The Ole Miss fan next to me slapped me on the back after it was over and said, "You sure do like our fight song." I winked and replied, "Buddy, it used to be the fight song for all of us." For the longer version Ole Miss band pre-game highlights in the Grove (without my laugh track), try this.

Paul, I've been looking for the site that has a post about "a gameday in the life of a Georgia Tech student". Do you know where I can find that site? I swear you have linked to it before but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

Chris.

No idea. I wrote this a few years ago, but it doesn't sound like what you're looking for.

Paul- Thanks for the quick response. I think you posted a link to another site, and this story was on a site other than Georgia Sports Blog.

Does anyone know the story behind Ole Miss's band not coming to UGA any longer?? I know it has something to do with the fact that they cannot play Dixie at UGA, but I don't know the details.

that's news to me. I think they bring a small pep band just like they always have. every stadium in the SEC lets them play dixie b/c the SEC lets them do it. We would never tell someone they couldn't play their fight song.

Most schools only send a pep band for non-day trip games b/c of extreme cost of housing and transporting 200-350 people.

UGA only sends a pep band to msu, om, lsu, ark, uk and I think vandy.

I expect OM to have a band in Athens. And I expect it will be very small.

If they don't, it's b/c they're broke. Not b/c we said they couldn't pay dixie.

Sorry PWD, but I believe ace is right. I know in 2002 the Chancelors at Ole Miss, in an attempt to appease threats of racism, agreed to limit the band to play Dixie only twice during the games. In the state of Georgia Dixie is not allowed to be played on state property - that includes the University of Georgia.
If I remember correctly, the Ole Miss band (nor pep band for that matter) did not travel to UGA the last time they played in Sanford. According to their website, they will not be travelling for this game either.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Why in God's name would anyone give a rat's you know what if they played Dixie? You're probably right, but geez. . .

Unknown said...

Well, yes, the whole racism thing. I wasn't thinking about that. They should blast some "Dixie" at Giants Stadium this Sunday night for Eli's sake - and Donovan's.

I actually remember back in the late 90's when the Red Coats would play Dixie after the games once most of the fans had cleared the stadium. I only witnessed it after a night game when there were only a handful of fans crowed around the band, but that was a while ago. I'm guessing they put an end to this. . .

Correct. The ACCPD and UGAPD will ticket anyone who whistles "Dixie" on state property.

FYI, Seth of Hotty Toddy Blog said that there is a gentleman's agreement among UGA and Ole Miss...Ole Miss cannot bring their band to UGA because of the "song selection." We are the ONLY school on their schedule where neither the full or pep band travel.
