I keep wanting to say that I'm finished with this story, but it keeps lingering. My favorite article so far is Tony Barnhart's article about The Celebration with current and former coaches. All the former coaches interviewed LOVED the move including Pat Dye, Terry Bowden, Danny Ford and others.
On the parody front, the folks over at CSTV have published the letter that Mark Richt should have written to SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, and Senator Blutarsky has been covering this story like his own personal Watergate.
The new CSS show "Dawg Report" with Buck Belue, Matt Stinchcomb and Matt Stewart saw a great point come to light. Stewart asked, "How is this any different than a baseball manager throwing a tantrum on the field in an effort to get thrown from the game and motivate his team?" I liked that analogy.
Personally, I keep coming back to the single most important point. We won. Gators lost. Amen.
Speaking of winning and enjoying the fruits of our victory, the Georgia Sports Blog store just got some new stuff in. They've got two more designs for Victory T-Shirts. One in Red and one in white. I still can't believe that they don't have Moreno Jerseys, but what are you gonna do?

Really the only reason not for him to have done it is the potential for a fight, but since he didn't expect the whole team to run out, it is hard to completely fault him for it.
Of course, having Bill Curry in your corner is another reason not to have done it.
Jason - I thought the same thing about Bill Curry.
Paul - that was a great point about a Baseball Manager or a Basketball Coach (Billy Tubbs circa 1988 comes to mind telling the fans regardless of how bad the officiating was - please don't throw things on the court. He got T'd and OU - who was down by 18 came back and won.
Go Dawgs!!
There is a difference in an error of judgment and a lack of class. At the worst, CMR is guilty of failing to fully consider how the players might interpret his direction and the possible consequences.
The only hypocrisy I see is the ridiculous whining of Gator fans and Florida "journalists." Florida is the poster child for poor sportsmanship in the SEC.
All the haters have been calling Richt classless and asking "What if there was a fight," but isn't it possible that the class and leadership with which Richt has conducted this program over the last 6+ years were maybe in some way responsible for the fact that his players just went out there to have fun and get fired up and never did anything violent?
And if some Florida player got mad and threw a punch, wouldn't that have been more of a reflection on Meyer than on Richt?
I mean, I'm just planting seeds here.
I wanted to make sure that it is clear- I support what Richt did. The potential for a fight was the only concern, but as Doug suggested, I think Richt's influence on them helped them to keep themselves in check and not lose control.
Yeah, Bill is a persona non grata in our household.
"I mean, I'm just planting seeds here."
That seed has already bloomed in my mind.
I think that the fact that it did not disintegrate into a brawl says a lot of good things about both programs.
But it would suit me if it never happened again.
Doug - best rebuttal I've heard. Excelent point.
Go Dawgs!
Stewart Mandel, si.com, is loving it too: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/stewart_mandel/10/31/mailbag/1.html (see bottom).
