More Good News from Vol Land: Trooper Taylor Leaving?

Ace Tennessee Vol recruiter Trooper Taylor (WR Coach), will interview for the offensive coordinator job at Baylor. If David Cutcliffe leaves UT for the head coaching job at Duke (he hasn't yet), Taylor would also be a leading candidate to take over as Vol player caller.

One rumored scenario has Taylor as co-offensive coordinator with former UGA TE coach / current Vol OL coach Greg Adkins. Another less credible rumor has the Vols considering New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone for the job. I can't see how moving from NFL OC to College OC under Fulmer is a promotion. Thus, I don't buy that second story.

If Cutcliffe stays put, Taylor would do well to consider the Baylor gig. If Cutcliffe moves on, he'll have the Baylor job as leverage against Fulmer to take the entire OC position at UT.

Taylor is one of the best recruiters in Knoxville since Rodney Garner left Fulmer's staff in the mid-90s. To see Fulmer without both Cutcliffe and Taylor would be exceptional news. I doubt we get both things to break out way though.

Briles will need all the help he can get at Baylor as he already has the chips stacked against him given the nature of the gig. Going up against UT, A&M, Texas Tech, OU and LSU to an extent in the Texas recruiting war is not going to be easy.

Is this the guy who's always jumping around on the UT sideline with his hat turned backwards and the white towel in his back pocket? If so, I think it would be great for them to lose him--not only from a recruiting standpoint, but also from a hype-man standpoint. He annoys the crap out of me jumping around like a lunatic after every relatively big play (and some that aren't even that impressive), but he sure does get their players fired up, too.

That is, if he is that guy.

Andrew, that is definitely him and he definitely looks like a jack-ass on the sidelines with the hat on backwards and the constant chest bumps. Come on coach, you are an adult now. Stop trying to look like a 16 year old. Perhaps I am a bit too old school, but hat thing really doesn't work for me -- of course he is certainly not doing it for my benefit. Their longtime D-Line coach wears his backwards also and has for as long as I can remember. Somehow, it was not nearly as annoying when we were rolling it up on them.....the bleeding must to stop in '08.

Eh, if our guys can do the Soulja Boy, then I'm not going to begrudge Taylor any backward-hat-wearing or jumping around -- remember, it wasn't that long ago that many of us would've traded our respective firstborns for that kind of enthusiasm on the sideline.

But yeah, if both him and Cutcliffe end up taking off for other jobs, I'll be very, very happy. Here's hoping the Vols hire Gailey as their new OC.

Yeah, I am sure when teams are getting thumped, like we have been getting thumped by UT over the past two years, the Soulja Boy has to be a bit grating to watch.

My problem with Trooper Taylor has never been how he wears his hat or how he shows his enthusiasm.

My problem with him is that he's the coach who was out on the huge G with the UT players planting their huge 'T' flag after the '04 game. He then led the group of UT players out to 'protect their T' after we beat them in '05. It came across as hypocritical and insecure.

I'm with hobnail...and to add to that, it's our guys dancing to Soulja Boy, not our coaches. If Richt or any of the other paid, grown-ass-man coaches had come onto the field during the Jacksonville Celebration, we would have looked as tacky as this guy does when he leads his players out to celebrate on opponents' field logos or runs halfway onto the field from the sideline for some chest bumps. Let's get this guy out the door before it even stops swinging from Cutcliffe.
