Pelini hired at Nebraska?

ESPN, the AP, Sporting News and the New Orleans Times Picayune are all reporting that it's a done deal. Nice timing douche bag. The day before the SEC Title Game? Very nice. I can't decide who's the bigger asshat here. Osborne or Pelini. Good hire. Lousy timing.

I'm a lousy gambler, but I think the safest bet in Vegas this weekend is Tennessee to cover the 7 points.

BTW -- Pitt hired former Nebraska AD Steve Pederson as athletic director. His first move appears to be giving Dave Wannstedt a three year contract extension. Pederson drives an Edsel, watches moves on BetaMax and owns 100,000 shares of Radio Shack stock...because you never know when the C.B. Radio will bounce back.

Note: I reserve the right to withdraw any negative comments about Wannstedt around midnight tonight if he pulls the upset. In fact, the Georgia Sports Blog will be sending Pederson and Wannstache a very nice fruit basket should that happen.

I'll do you five better. If Pittsburgh beats West Virginia, I will personally fly to steel town and
wash Wand-whatevers car.

Here's to Wannstedt enjoying peaches!

Technically, there wasn't an official announcement, so we can partially blame the timing, but yeah, wait until Sunday and go easy on the LSU kids.
I thought Crowton might go too, but his name hasn't been thrown around as much lately. Do you think he is waiting to interview at LSU if Miles leaves?

Also, Daddy Bowden got a 1 year extension. I could be wrong, but wouldn't you think if he planning on staying for a while, he would have least put together a 3 year deal? I wonder if the 08 season is his last and he plans to use that time to groom a suitor- Fisher or ???

Nebraska is scuttling.

Pellini has all the charm of Tenuta. Hard bark.

This hire is five years too late.

Speaking of which, I heard on ESPN this morning that Miles is definitely headed to Michigan, and Tenuta is going to be his D-coordinator.

Needless to say, the Techies are none too happy about this, nor are they thrilled that they might only be getting Randy Edsall in return.

Yep, Doug, thats true. Its on ESPN right now, above the Pelini story.

Also, Paul, whats the URL to the college football statistics website you use? I can't find it on Google, but its that badass site that has records, bowl games, scores, etc. since the beginning of time.

If Pelini is an asshat, then I'm not sure what to make of Miles announcement today about Meeeechigan.

I think his players knew he was leaving and he's at least honest for getting it out there.

Tenuda's gone. Welcome tech to a couple of years of going 4-8 and all y'all have to comfort you is the fact that at one time you could get a bowl bid by going 7-5. To hell with every last one of them.

Off Subject:

Anybody else notice the not-so-subtle lobbying on Gameday this morning for a USC / UGA Rose Bowl? Kirk and Lee were both telling the Rose Bowl to take UGA over Illinois to set up a matchup of the best teams in the nation. Think Disney was giving a subtle hint to who they want in their big money bowl game?

jasonc,

According to espn.com, Bobby B adds a year onto his coach, but according to the article he has an agreement that he's there as long as he wants to be there.

How a 1 year extension=lifetime contract, I'm not sure.

I hate to write of what "might have been"...but, damn...if only UK or Vandy could kick a field goal...(or USC didn't tank)...

We'd have LSU right where we want them.

If Tennessee blows this, my disdain for them may pass that which I have for the gators...

I truly believe, though, that the vols will win this one. They've got everything on their side now. Momentum, confidence, an opponent that is more concerned about their future than this game, a senior quarterback, luck (and lots of it), and a revenge factor (from 2001).

Just a prediction, but...

UT wins: 31-20

Miles is now staying at LSU? WTF?!?!?! Actually, he's an idiot so I like our chances a lot more with him as the head coach at baton rouge.

Well, now ESPN's reporting that Miles is staying at LSU after all. However, with Bo Pelini confirmed as going up to Nebraska to take their head-coaching job, it's still possible that Miles could try to tap Tenuta as his replacement. It'll be interesting to see how much a desire to keep Tenuta plays into GT's ongoing head-coach search.

Tenuta to LSU...interesting. Seeing how we play against his D, I'm not worried in the least.
