Dawgs Finish #2 and #3 in Polls

AP poll puts the Dawgs at #2 with three first place votes. The Coaches Poll puts Georgia at #3; however, we were only 10 votes behind Southern Cal.

Tony Barnhart has Georgia ranked #1 on his preseason 2008 ranking. Although, Tony doesn't have an AP Vote anymore per AJC policy, so it's only meaningful in so far as Tony is a thought leader in college football.

One helluva a year for the Dawgs!

More later. Crazy day at work.

Ga went from 4th to 3rd while USC went from 6th to 2nd in the coaches poll. I guess they thought the win over Illinois was more impressive than the win over Hawa.....wait, they ranked Hawaii 17th and Illinois 18th... WTF? During the season teams lose and get replaced by teams that win week to week. Apparently that doesnt work for the last week of the season and post season. If so then Ga would be #1 right now.

I'm not sure I understand what all the fuss is from my fellow Dawg fans with Coaches having us 3 and USC 2.

Given that we didn't even make the SEC Championship Game from our division - I'd say 2 or 3 is pretty damn fine.

If the shoe was on the other foot and we won the SEC and USC didn't win the Pac10 - I'd be losing my mind if they were ahead of us.

I'll take my 2.5 final ranking and my top 3 recruiting class and be ready for GSU in 8 months.

I just heard on ESPN radio that UGA president Michael Adams is asking the NCAA to form a selection committee for an 8-team playoff.

If this is true, good for Adams.

Somebody has got to get the ball rolling. Two of the second-tier conferences (The Pac-10 and the Big Ten) are holding college football back. Looks like it's up to the SEC to take college football into the future once again.

(Note: In my opinion, if your conference doesn't have a championship game, it is a "second-tier" conference. This includes the Big East.)

I'm pretty happy about finishing #2or #3 too. If you would have told me that after the Tenn. game I would not have believed it.

Exciting times in Bulldawg Nation. I even booked my hotel and flight to Arizona State today.

I hope there isnt a fuss over this. I personally am quite happy we finished 2 and 3 in the polls after a very disapointing first half of the season. I just found it interesting that the same coaches who jumped USC over UGa thought before the bowls that UGa was 3 spots better than them. They had only the premise of the bowl performances to judge this by and being that they ultimately didn't think Illinois was as good as Hawaii it was interesting to see they did think USC was better than Uga. Just pointing out how off the voting system actually is. (for the record I think based on the 2 losses each team had that UGa's were to better opponents)

I agree with smitty, 82 & c.paul.
2 & 3 are great and we should be happy to finish there this year.
But the coaches do have some very fuzzy logic as 82 noted.
