Herschel was in NJ on the Generals until 85, played the 86 season in Dallas. Knowshon was born in 87 (damn i'm old)

Nice. I missed that when it was on, and so did my Tivo. When I turned on the tv, we were being treated to Colt Brennan, the Ha'a, and Jumper.

Wow - I forget just how huge Herschel is until you see him next to Knowshon! He looks like he never leaves the gym. Not that Knowshon can't hold his own . . .

Two things jump out at me in watching this:

1. Knowshon's bigger than he looks on the field, and he's almost as big as Herschel, who seemed MASSIVE on the field. Of course, in Herschel's day, OL guys probably weighed about 250. Hell, Southerland probably weighs that much now. Maybe even Stafford...

2. Herschel looks like he could suit up and run for 150 tomorrow. For a guy who's pushing 50, he looks great. Anyone who doesnt understand that he's the greatest running back in the history of college football is just ignorant. Tony Dorsett is the only guy who had a similarly electric effect on college football, and it took him 4 years to win his national championship (although, to be fair to TD, he started with a lot worse team). Archie Griffin had more hardware (though Herschel should have won 3 Heismans. Got screwed as a freshman, won as a junior, surely would have won as a senior), Barry Sanders had a better single season, but not a better career. Who else is even in the discussion?

Ignorant ass AU fans try to throw Bo Jackson's name in there, and my response is always "well, Bo was certainly better at Herschel in baseball." Bo never had to shoulder the load Herschel did, he never produced like Herschel did, and he didnt have the durability and toughness Herschel did. He was a great college player, but better than Herschel? Please. Go back to stump jumping goats, AU fans.

I'm disappointed Herschel didn't do the Superman. Come on.
I watched the replay when I got back home and after I saw this video I thought maybe the Fox broadcast wouldn't be that bad. I was wrong, horribly, horribly, wrong.

Actually, Girl24, Herschel doesn't go to the gym.

At least, he didn't weight-train during his playing days. His regimen was, and is today, something like 1000 push-ups and 1500 sit-ups every day.

The most staggering images of Herschel were of him running track in a skimpy tank-top and shorts, against guys that weighed about 140 pounds.

He didn't agree to come to UGA until Dooley promised to let him run track.

nrbq -

Thanks for the info, I knew that about Hersch. That's what I meant by "looks like." Maybe it didn't read that way.

I read the surprising story about him and multiple personality disorder today in the AJC. Who knew?!? Still one of my heroes.
