2008 SEC Strength of Schedule Discussions

Paul Finebaum has posted his annual ranking of SEC non-conference schedules. The Bulldogs predictably come in first place in his rankings with a road trip to preseason Top 10-15 Arizona State and a home date against the Yellow Jackets. Senator Blutarsky has some quick thoughts on the Finebaum article.

Looking at non-conference schedules on a more national level, YahooSports ranks all the top non-conference games this year (excluding the normal rivalry games like FSU vs. UF). The UGA vs. ASU match-up comes in 2nd place for their list. Only the tOSU at USC out shines our duel in the desert.

It's times like this that make me want to point out the all-time strength of schedule numbers from College Football Data Warehouse. Georgia comes in at #2 on their all-time list. (ht - Dawgnoxious)

We're definitely getting the value for our entertainment buck this year.

And 2009 looks even stiffer though the home games are better. 3 BCS out of conf things with OK State, Az State and Tech. LSU comes to Athens, we go to Ark on the West rotators.

We do have a chance to get an open date before Fla again and we are still looking for a game between Florida and Auburn.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Ideally, can you shoot me a screen shot of the issue.

YGM, screencap included and a description as best I could as to what's happening when I first arrive to the blog... though I'm not sure how much help that will be. Seems like the problem would be whatever robots.txt is and the broken link to it, but I dunno bro, probably Techie spyware IYAM.

I gotta admit Central Michigan kinda scares me a bit. I just hope were not looking ahead that week.

did he really just say that the SEC plays the "little league" title game?
Finebaum is a joke

One thing I have never liked about CFB is the relatively weak scheduling all around. Yes, UGa's OOC is the toughest in the SEC. But is that saying anything? 1 road trip to a solid but not elite Pac-10 team and three home games against lightweights is the best the SEC has to offer?

Uga's OOC schedule still isn't what I would call objectively difficult or even challenging. It's just not as bad as the rest of the conference.

I hope Georgia doesn't blow it for ASU and lose before they even get to Tempe. What a let down that would be. Make sure they get here untouched so we can be the first to rough them up! Go Devils!

I hate to say it but I'm almost hoping we lose a game early. I'd prefer to avoid the pressure of dealing with the undefeated talk all season only to blow it in the last 2-3 games. If we lose early we can regain ground. Lose late and you're toast. Plus we have a tendency to both rise and sink to the occasion, where we beat tough teams then lose to teams like Vandy and SC.

I don't necessarily agree with the "Lose late and you're toast" philosophy anymore-not after LSU last year!
