Felton lands shooting guard for 2008 signing class

The 2008 class needed a shooter, and Felton signed a shooter. Ebuka Anyaorah is a 6'4" shooting guard from North Gwinnett high school who averaged 26.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Per the AJC:
Anyaorah was recruited by Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Michigan and Vanderbilt. He originally committed to Colorado before changing his mind and deciding to join the Bulldogs.
First Joe Cox steals the souls of the Buffalo nation, and now Felton kicks 'em while they are down.

This will be an interesting kid to watch. The State of Georgia is loaded once again in 2009. The Dawgs currently only have two scholarships to give for the '09 class. One has been claimed by Demario Mayfield. The other is likely being reserved for All-Universe recruit Derrick Favors of South Atlanta.

Hopefully, Favors will let Felton know one way or the other as soon as possible so that we can use the scholarship on someone else if need be. Statistically speaking, we will likely have some attrition before the 2009 class enrolls; however, it's more likely that we wouldn't have that spot open up until the Spring '09 signing date.

Anyway...we needed a shooter. This kid is a shooter with multiple offers from other high major schools. He's also a Gwinnett product. Gwinnett County is the key to the Georgia Basketball program's future.

Paul, would you mind expanding upon your thoughts on the importance of GwinCo recruiting for bball?

Yeah maybe tonight.

I gotta admit, Felton put together a strong class even before he won the SECC. Anyaorah is a talented kid and could help immediately.

Landing Favors, though. THAT would put us on the map. Even if he is a one-and-done.

I think Jonas Hayes started the whole Colorado thing with that miracle three point shot in Boulder. When was that, 2002?

Not sure on that one Quinton, but I remember Harrick making jokes about it.

I also remember Dawgnoxious and I sitting in row 2 behind the UGA bench in '97 in Boulder.

After the game we dropped a little....

"You may not like it, but you better learn to love it. Because it's the best thing going today."

What a fun trip.

Pretty sure that CU had Chauncey Billiups. Or am I getting those CU teams mixed up?

Jonas Hayes hit that shot in fall '02.

I got a chuckle out of the fact that the AJC scooped ugasports.com by a number of hours on this commitment. Despite taking the basketball board premium and talking like big changes are afoot, their basketball coverage will always suck.

Anyaorah is a pretty good pickup for you guys - he exploded onto the scene this year as a high major level player late and he seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder to prove he can be an impact guy at that level right off the bat.

He's still really raw though in terms of overall skill level - there's going to be some lumps with him. He's a very good athlete and he's got great range on his shot, but there's not a lot in between for him right now. I expect him to be the kind of guy that gets a lot better as his career goes along based on improving his overall skill level (especially as a ball handler).

Felton is doing a much better job recruiting recently. The state of Georgia is so loaded with talent that there's no excuse for GT and UGa to not both have top 25 classes every single year.

Anon 12:18 - I really enjoyed the UGASports.com b-ball board. Shame it went premium. It was light years ahead of the barren wasteland of DawgPost.com's b-ball board.

I love me some DawgPost, but that board is d-e-a-d.
