So now the Dawgs head to Hoover after their worst series of the year. Yeah, I know: nothing to play for, not motivated, saving the intensity for the postseason. Well, I hope that's right. Nick Montgomery, who pitched wonderfully against Georgia Tech Tuesday night, will start the opening game against Ole Miss. That's slated for Wednesday at 6:00 PM Eastern. CSS will provide television coverage in high def.
I'd say we need at least one win to ensure a national seed and an Athens superregional. Ole Miss is a scary opponent because they have a really good starter in Lance Lynn and an ace reliever in Scott Bittle. Lynn's coming off a bad outing Thursday in Lexington and I'm not sure if we will see him Wednesday or not. The Dawgs handed Lynn his second loss of the year in Athens back on May 2, tagging him for 5 runs over 6 and a third. Nick Montgomery gave up 4 earned over two-thirds of an inning back in that series too.

I think they said there were 20 home runs in the 3 games by the two combined teams. That is sick!
Can't wait for the regionals!
One win this weekend would certainly help, but I think we need two to feel comfortable about a national seed. There are three spots left between us, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Cal State-Fullerton. A&M and Nebraska were both swept this weekend so that certainly hurt them. We'll need to watch the Big XII and see how those three teams do (as well as if Fullerton wins the Big West or not).
I have to like our chances in the first two games beating Ole Miss and Kentucky, though. Having the one-seed certainly helps.
